Besides the cg I thought it was fine, and the 80s version is my favorite horror movie of all time.

same. I liked the continuity, but the cg was shit. Big shoes to fill though. They were never going to top the practical effects from the Kurt Russell one, especially the "pac man torso" scene, which is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. I don't remember when I first watched it or how old I was but I remember when that happened I was like "hoooooooooly fuck that was fucking awesome O_O" and it wasn't that long ago. Like, I think I first saw in the 2000s, so cgi was already a thing and the practical effects were already outdated (I know I saw it at least several years after Jurassic Park) but it still impressed the fuck out of me, as did all of the other practical effects, and the story, narration, setting, psychological elements etc.

No prequel was ever going to do it justice in terms of quality, but they stuck to continuity and even though they fumbled with the shitty cg, the story was decent and Mary Elizabeth Winstead had a solid performance. She's awesome in like everything she does (that I've seen at least). The lab assistant dude (guy from one of those NCIS shows) was a bit over the top. In terms of acting, he kinda dragged things down a little bit.

True - I liked how they built on the origins so to speak.. but actually just raised more questions

remake. There's also a prequel that came out later which I believe stars Noomi Rapace

No. The 2011 version is the prequel.

The 1982 version is actually a remake of the 1951 version The Thing From Another World.

The 2002 game is the canon sequel to the 1982 movie.

So the correct order to get the full lore is

The Thing, The Thing, The Thing.

I did not hear that. But the idea of a "carpenterverse" is pretty cool sounding.

Throw in Halloween, They Live and Christine and now were cookin

very true, but just with those original 3, it actually makes sense even if debunked... The Thing,,, it lands and establishes itself. Prince of Darkness... It's advancing itself and gaining power. In The Mouth of Madness... The End.

I read some fan theory somewhere at one point that really went hard with that and I really liked the idea lol. I think it would be awesome. But yeah it would be a travesty to leave out They Live.

Halloween and Christine I tie together a bit differently. Not entirely sure why.

great, he also said the comic book was canon, even though it contradicts literally everything in the game.

For a creature with sentience & intelligence (I assume), I have no idea why it would reveal itself as an alien and go on a killing spree.
