It mirrored the distrust and skepticism that other races had towards humans, and in the context of the setting it wasnt entirely unsympathetic that someone would initially have those feelings. ME1 having more biotics on your team is always better because biotics are busted and they aren't on a universal timer. ME2 squadmates matter if you're challenging yourself on harder difficulty because ME2 is actually kind of hard on harder difficulties, unlike ME3, and having access to specific abilities like Incinerate, Warp and Overload on specific maps is actually kind of important.
