I guess pretending your release isn't full can help with marketing when you have to shut down your dead game to try again.

But if you're taking microtransaction money your game is not a beta.

I stopped playing a few months ago because the game felt bad so hopefully they can get everything straightened out and have a successful game again.

IDK if their team was too small or what but they really dropped the ball with the initial release.

I played the first weekend it was available or so.

Multiplayer only games just aren't my thing though. If it had a campaign of some sorts or challenges like Smash I would consider paying money for it, but as a F2P grindfest I am ok passing

According to their LinkedIn profile, the developer has been on a hiring spree recently and the team has grown from 11 people to around 50, which I think bodes well for the final release.

Now I hope I can get the 500 party matches trophy by the end of June. It's the last one I need, and I got the 100 party matches trophy last October, so I can't be far off now, surely?

Cynically I feel like there's no way it's coming back and that this is just a way to quietly cancel it without having to offer refunds. Either way it's sketchy as fuck to take people's money then shut down for a year.

I doubt they have to offer refunds even if they did just shut it down.

Some companies do that for good publicity but others it's just gone

The good publicity is what I meant, yeah. "Have to" was just bad phrasing on my part.

Yes and they had a major update to improve hitboxes that also didn't really help much. And they also went radio silent for like 3 or 4 months and the only updates were silly seasonal events or delaying the next season's battlepass.

Apparently they sold a pack of 30 character tokens and there have only been 22 characters to use them on so far. So if the game shut down right now, there could be legal issues if there's no refund.

I think I bought the initial battlepass after completing it, actually.

I bought the $100 pass and do regret it but I also played for about 100 hours so it wasn't exactly money wasted.

I probably have like 27 character tokens left or something lol

The problems with this game and other Smash clones becomes a lot clearer after watching Sakurai's youtube channel and see just how much detail he puts into every little element of SSB; from the animations, to the special effects, to the way hitstun works, etc. The action in Multiversus just doesn't have a good feeling "weight" to it. It doesn't have that same level of attention, and that just makes it feel less fun to play.

The way they were constantly nerfing anything fun was a bad choice

A crappy Smash clone that will forgotten about like Playstation All-Stars. Next.
