Hes not wrong. Its not a whole lot of fun at the beginning, but they get more fun as they get older.

But i will concede parenthood is a very expensive way to get player 2 in video games.
Being frank, one can only speak for themselves.

It's great you like having a kid and think it's fun (whenever that fun marker is), but it doesn't apply to everyone.

No way in hell would I consider a child like my sister, fun to have. The 25 going on 26 child is a menace to my parents. She's always been a menace.

That's not a "joy" I want in my life.

Fucking lol. Letting imaginary ghosts influence your speck of a life sure is something.

Ehh, I dont see how thats much different for relating to literally anybody else on the planet, considering we wont ever interact with almost the entirety of the eight billion that exist now. Empathy varies of course from person to person, although your take seems nihilistic or possibly misanthropic.

It's not anything like relating to a person that's alive, because you have no idea what dead people wanted, unless they wrote a will that explicitly states it. This is all your perceived idea of what ancestors wanted for the future offspring.

More importantly, I absolutely do not understand letting anyone who is not directly involved influence major life decisions, alive or dead. Makes no sense. Empathize with their belief - if you actually know it, sure - but that's doesn't mean you have to live that way.

Also, empathy does not mean feeling that past generations want you to have kids because life was harder.

Maybe we could judge ourselves though.

I mean not having kids would feel like a massive letdown to my ancestors. Obviously we will never know, but its something I kept thinking about for a long time. They survived plagues and various diseases that had no cures or treatment. They probably had to suffer through low crop yields, unsuccessful hunts and other famine-related periods. Probably had to fight or run away from bandits who would literally cut your throat over pieces of bread or salted meat, and maybe even from Sabre tooth cats and wolves, if you go back far enough. And of course it mustve been difficult to worry about all that and then look for a mate.

Now we have an abundance of food available on practically every street, medicine isnt perfect but its better than its ever been and sex is casually available. But we wont have kids because it does not sound fun. For sure, its a personal choice and everybody has that right to decide either way. I just cant shake that feeling that it would be a letdown for all that your bloodline had to go through up until this point in time.

This is such a weird fucking take lol. I think it's because I don't believe there's anything inherently noble about having kids. Also keep in mind that almost all of our ancestors had kids because they liked sex and didn't have access to birth control. I'm sure if you plucked your ancestors from history and placed them in present day, many would opt out of having kids.

If my ancestors want me to continue the bloodline, theyre more than welcome to make girls actually look at me and figure out a way to get me a job that actually pays more than like $35,000 a year base, and make medical and housing costs not so insanely expensive but until those things are fixed, I aint bringing a kid into this world to live like that.

Only have kids if you genuinely want them. Otherwise, you're not being fair on the kids or on yourselves.

The extra 1.5 million dollars I'll have saved by not raising a kid will.
Yeah once my wife passes, in forty or fifty years, if I'm alive obviously I have a plan that I can't really say without getting modded. But basically I won't be a burden to anything
