The voting to defund police back in 2020 was a bit short sighted.

I have a feeling that it's more like once calls for defunding the cops came, cops decided to be total pricks and not do their jobs out of childish spite, which is something the right loves to demonize when it's anybody else.

A lot of them resigned/retired. Resignations and retirements are at record highs throughout the country. Filling up all those vacanies are proving to be very difficult.

Of course. Defund the police was an idiotic movement. REFORMED the police should've been the cause to begin with but people all wanted to do their hot take slogan.

I feel like the left is bad at coming up with names and slogans for things. Defund the police, except for a small number of people, was never actually about taking all the money away from the police. But it sure as hell let the right pretend it was and get their people riled up about it.

I swear there's usually another example or two I can give but my brain is shut down today. Long night last night.

Boohoo. If you quit your job because you can't beat up minorities wothout consequences then you shouldn't be a cop to begin with.

I'm guessing it's rhe same thing as Portland, they didn't defend police so much as give them reasonable rules, to which their response was to throw a tantrum and refuse to work.

Still lots of bad cops tho

They increased their police budget, just like almost everywhere else did.

Police are simply refusing to police if they have even the slightest bit of oversight and can't kill and detain with impunity.

Murders and a few other high profile crimes have gone up nationwide, in both liberal and conservative areas, but crime is still far far lower than it was in the 80s and 90s.

All of you blaming anything on a defunding that did not even occur are being suckered in by a Fox New narrative (as in this is literally a Fox News article, not a Yahoo one).

Also, defunding doesn't just mean taking money away from police, it means equitably redistributing societal resources towards things that actually prevent crime, like reducing poverty and precarity in general. If you don't do that too, it's not "defunding the police." There was nothing wrong with the slogan, you're simply getting your understanding of it from articles like this.

So instead of just quiet quitting, they're quitting entirety out of childish spite then.

"Waaah, we can't abuse and extort and murder people with absolute no consequences anymore! Waaah our overtime pay that we take so much advantage of is less now! Waaah, we can't have the latest military surplus gear to intimidate and hurt people and sup-ed up cars we don't really need anymore!"

Poor cops. They're so abused and mistreated. Hell, 90% of them still get away with tons of crimes and abuses. They still get tons of overtime pay. What do they want? A doctor's salary? An actual license to kill and Lamborghini cop cars with miniguns and missile launchers straight out of James Bond movie? "Civilians" to literally worship them?

People have been calling for police reform for decades. It's a cultural issue with policing that rears its ugly head and the citizens and tax payers have to bear the brunt of it. Can we really reform this?
