I had an N64 as a kid and not a PS1. I know a lot of people will say things like, "The library for the PS1 was so much bigger!" which, while true, didn't mean a whole lot to me as a kid. I'm not sure if everyone else was in this situation, but as a small child, I only had a handful of games for the N64. I really only got new games at Christmas, on my birthday, or on occasions where I did really well at school. Hell, I can probably remember the exact library I had for the bulk of my childhood: Mario Party 2 Mario Kart 64 Super Smash Bros. Hey You Pikachu Tonic Trouble Paper Mario I did acquire a copy of Resident Evil 2 when I was in high school. I had this utterly absurd habit of buying sealed games and opening them because I didn't want to play something that could be damaged by a previous owner. This was pre-2010, so the cost of a sealed N64 game was pretty small (to the point that a high schooler could buy it without issue), but I kick myself for not keeping it sealed. I also rented plenty of games. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Diddy Kong Racing, and Yoshi's Story were my favorites. I frequently borrowed or played games at my cousin's house. Super Mario 64, Snowboard Kids, Mickey's Speedway USA, and countless others. I got to experience a library of maybe 30 games between my own collection, rentals, and playing at other people's houses. That's plenty for a child. I've built up my personal collection of N64 games since then. I bought a ton in college and not long after graduation. I have almost everything I want (games I frequently rented as a child, things I saw in magazines but could never get my hands on, titles I played at my cousin's house), but unfortunately what remains is prohibitively expensive. I can't justify paying $140 for a loose copy of Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. I actually make a point to never pay more than the original MSRP for a game. I did play PS1 games at friends' and cousins' houses. I eventually got a PS2 and ended up playing some of the PS1 games I missed on it. I still preferred the N64. ... Copied to Clipboard!
