Wow China is using alt right talking points about FBI being politicized.

Sad thing is it 100% wouldnt surprise me if it was a lab leak. I would absolutely expect people to be so careless and stupid as to let that get out.

I mean it's pretty irresponsible to release a report like that with low confidence. It will take time to definitively figure out the origin just like it took 8 or so years to figure out where the Bird Flu started.

Which may, and I'm speculating, have been a way for them to try and immunize bats to prevent zoonosis.

The lab leak theory isn't really a thing. It's always been political, a way of trying to create somebody to blame, and take eyes away from our shitty response to the pandemic.

Conservatives will explode trying to figure out who to side with here.

The evidence is pretty lopsided toward the lab leak being the source. The Wuhan Institute of Virology was the top SARS/Coronavirus lab in China, they put it in Wuhan specifically because environmentally it is one of the least likely places for a SARS/Coronovirus outbreak to occur naturally, the lab was studying the 8 closest relatives we have found to COVID19 (which they shipped in from Southeast Asia, thousands of miles away). They were studying these viruses in BSL-2 level security facilities, which is so low that employees don't even have to report if they get sick or quarantine afterward.

And this isn't even getting into the molecular evidence that has been found in the virus which heavily hints at genetic modifications that most likely didn't occur naturally. Here is a great podcast going over the details, just wish they didn't put some of it behind a paywall:

Yeah no, I can see the FBI over-reaching. There has been analysis done on the virus by everyday genetic scientists and the majority consensus is the virus came about naturally; not from a lab. It's true there's convincing circumstantial evidence for the lab leak theory, but it requires some pretty significant inferences; whereas natural development just requires the right environment factors.

Which is easier to believe? A lab leak that was kept secret by hundreds or thousands of people? Or that a virus in a specific environment with specific trigger factors mutated naturally?

I wouldn't. If for nothing else, it would give the xenophobes an excuse to start attacking innocent asians again, regardless of citizenship status or country of origin.

I think they believe that it hasnt successfully been kept secret despite Chinas unwillingness to cooperate & be transparent with the international community.

Next they'll probably go from believing the human immune system is unbeatable and can't be weakened to disbelieving Germ Theory because it has the word Theory in it. And then they'll be right on track to not believe in Atomic Theory and that atoms and matter are bullshit.

Yeah it's an inference based on how much of a coincidence it is that this covid lab was near where it all started.

But idk, it seems to me if you're looking to place a lab somewhere to study covid, that location seems like a good spot. Feels like the thinking on the lab leak is backwards.

Tiktok is a great thing. Hot women, people exposing the U.S. government, exposing organizations, racists exposed, unlimited great dog cat and other animal videos, etc. Also it got the better and smoother UI than youtube and Instagram

So, even if we accept the theory that it escaped from a lab, what is the spotlight of disapproval supposed to be trained on, exactly? That China engages in bioweapons research (and the US never has?), or that their labs are sloppy when it comes to precautions?
