No. The spores are a massive part of the story. It isn't even the same zombies, if they don't have spores. They destroyed the story, just so they could avoid 2 minutes of mask wearing. Have you even played the game?

Ooh, that is a bad creative choice IMO. Spores were a great way to really hammer home Ellie's immunity bit and easily make a situation more tense. I guess they aren't completely necessary, but they were easily an important part of the game.

They don't need like full episodes, but I don't really think it would have been anywhere close to a problem to come up now and again.

Though honestly, with how TLOU was basically structured like a TV show anyway, any big changes will probably feel like they're for the worse regardless.

Not while you're actually playing. While you're playing the goal is actually being a quiet as possible.

Which is when they usually are wearing the masks. Which is why eliminating them seems like not a big deal.

As we get closer to the first episode, every new bit of news makes the show sound worse and worse. I wanted this to be good.

Its HBO. I have a near blind trust in them to deliver quality. And this was made prior to Cheap Zaslav being in the picture

I don't want a show with gas masks. I just want a show that has 2 minutes of gas masks. You have yet to provide a valid reason not to use the masks. Everything said in this topic has been debunked. The idea of the fungus doesnt even make sense because gas masks dont cover your ears. Joel didnt walk around in a hazmat suit. Spores would get caught on everything and everyone would get infected anyways. It would help them tighten up the "rules" of the infection in the show.

Also, the bite is better visually to tell of Ellies infection in contrast to when Tess gets bitten.

Masks cover the star's faces, and they didn't want that.

So they made it so they aren't needed.

Whenever I see gameplay from the games I've never seen Joel or Eli wear a mask.

Well, to the people making the show, it apparently was.

And like someone pointed out, the masks/spores thing was a terribly flawed plot point anyway, as the spores could've entered the body though other orifices, or something like an exposed cut, which Joel had for virtually the entire game.

I absolutely hate this decision but even in the game they almost never wore the gas masks. And even when they did a tiny gas mask that they didn't put on until they were within arm's reach of some giant mass of cordyceps didn't seem like it would protect them in the first place.

Well it was more believable than the idea of spreading a apocalyptic plague simply by biting people like in other zombie fiction.

i remember being constantly confused that people weren't getting infected when i played the last of us. you're walking around buildings filled with evil mold and sneaking around the mold zombies but it just sort of never comes up. resident evil is one thing for example because you can just assume your character never canonically gets bitten, but it makes a lot less sense when the problem is airborn

anyway im sure the show is going to be dogshit but this doesnt seem like anything much to get super mad about. they want their actors to have their faces onscreen constantly

Working with chemicals is a real thing that we know how works and what equipment you use with it.

And Breaking Bad kind of made an aesthetic out of it.

Last of Us is fantasy they can make their own rules for and it clearly does not have similar aesthetic priorities in mind.

Reading dude tripping out over spores ...ain't that serious. Matter of fact, it would be nice to have, but it's not a deal breaker at all lol most of the people get bitten when they change anyway. Homie tripping and for reference, I've played the first one 3 times and the second one once all the way through. I think it's more of a thing in the second than the first as far as characters having to wait behind until you find them a mask. The only thing I haven't liked that I've seen, is using the song take on me for the series trailer. Honestly could have just used the sound track from the game.

I don't understand what you even think you're saying. A lot of your favourite movies are probably adaptations with significant differences from the source material.

Didn't see this topic lol it's a smart change for the medium. Spores makes sense in the video game but in a show it would make for really dumb visuals, and would create so much bad commentary from the viewers.

People are 1000x more critical of tv show narratives than games. If spores were how the virus transmitted people would be saying shit like "why didn't they burn their clothes after they wore them through a spore outbreak" or some shit. It makes for a messier narrative that is overlooked in a video game format. The fact that the characters don't wear gas masks way more often in the games is proof of that. The spores are a gameplay mechanic as well as a narrative tool. In a more realistic approach, spores would completely drag down the narrative.

Its such a minute detail, despite what people are saying, tgat can be easily explained in the first interaction between Ellie and a clicker. Clicker grabs at Ellie, scratches/cuts her, she doesnt turn, series progresses as the game did.
