If they have to stop processing boxes every time a random worker dies in the warehouse how can they still guarantee next day shipping?

Will 100,000 customers accept that their package is late if a card is attached saying sorry for a worker dying along the way?

I doubt they stacked boxes on top of him. The article says that people around him were given resources and time off. Not sure what else the warehouse could have done. They can't reasonably shut down the facility because of something like that.

Shutting down an entire facility that probably employs hundreds would be overkill, but they should definitely be keeping people well away from that particular area.

My condolences to the friends and family of the poor wagey that got boxed off in the name of stuffing Bozos wallet with even more money though, as thats absolutely dystopian right there.

They called the coroner. What were they supposed to do with the body in the meantime, prop it up and re-enact Weekend at Bernie's?

Legally they should not be moving a body. Secure the area and provide space for the authorities to do so. Particularly if there is any chance that foul play may be involved.

Sounds like the coroner was either too busy or took their time getting there. Fire fighters and ambulance(s) that attended would have made the call whether or not to move the victim.

Lets say the coroner takes three hours to get there (sounds like it took more but whatever). With all the machines and people they are probably processing like 100,000 packages an hour or something.

They could have done more to cordon off that specific area, but I don't think the facility as a whole needs to shut down, depending on where the person actually was and what they were doing.

No, e-commerce is the problem. Those facilities are already moving 100s of thousands of packages in them a day, and that employee is already complaining about all the work hours that's demanded of them. If they shut down then they'd have to work even more. The people that are actually impacted by the death received resources (whatever that may be) and time off. What do the people working on the other side of the facility actually need?

Do I really need to answer this? Amazon can afford to shut a facilty down for one day to show they care and hire temps when production resumes.

Disgusting there are people defending Amazon here. There's no reason that the area where the employee died wasn't closed down until the body could be properly removed outside of pure greed. And I'm not going to feel sorry for Amazon owned by a billionaire losing some money, because someone died doing the job.

Why does a facility with millions of square feet need to be closed for a medical death? They absolutely 100% screwed up by allowing any employees within distance of the area and actively trying to work around a tragedy, but otherwise it's silly to send however many of hundreds of people home just for that. Nobody other than upper management should have been allowed within 100 feet of the scene. Anyone greatly impacted should be offered time off and counseling. Short of a horrible accident or a murder, that's really all that needs to happen in such a large space.

Was 2 jobs ago, but I use to work in a military warehouse. They aren't really small, and I doubt an Amazon one is small.

If something were to happen, it's not really necessary to shut the entire building down. Shutting down and quarantine the area of the death no doubt, but not the entire facility which sometimes includes multiple buildings.

This story is fucked up because it seems they had people a working a few dozen of feet away from a corpse. So they are fucked up there, just saying a big ass facility doesn't need to shut down as well.

They showed they cared by giving the employees actually impacted by the passing time off from work and resources to manage their grief. These warehouses aren't tiny bodegas with 5 people on staff at a time. They're thousands of square feet with hundreds of people at any given moment. All of those people weren't working with or even near the deceased person. Why would someone separated by thousands of meters of walls, shelves, and other industrial equipment need time off to manage trauma from an event that they didn't even witness and only heard about from a news article?

There are literally laws surrounding bereavement leave. People lose their friends all the time and they're not entitled to time off of work for it. If that person was a family member then sure, but if it's just the dude you nod your head to when you pass by in the hallway on occasion then why would you need time off if he passed?

And I highly doubt the box stacking thing is true.
