i never get that vibe from chemistry or physics majors, whose material is at least on-par if not even more difficult

i didn't notice this one until i got older but it's definitely true. my brother is 20 and in college right now and has his friends over pretty often. without fail, all their conversations boil down to these weirdly tense tug-of-wars over fleeting moments of superiority. they all seem to get a kick out of being a contrarian or devil's advocate, but they try to do it with a dismissive air rather than a berating one. any time one of them expresses an opinion, they end up challenged on it for no reason.

in other words they're basically CEmen but most of them have had at least one girlfriend

As an EE Major I can confirm I was/am objectively superior to my peers.

I worked at two engineering firms as a GIS analyst. All but one of the engineers I worked with was insufferable. The one cool engineer was really great to work with at least.

I was a liberal arts and humanities major in undergrad.

They made some stem upper class folks take a 300 level ethics class I was in it due to my major as well.

It was bizzarly funny watching them flip between condescending this is stupid and so easy why should we be in here with whining at the professor for study guides and complaining the exams were essay only.
