It was all so stupid. I should have just been normal and aspired to do some normal shit like everybody else. It's been a huge blow to my ego. I'm too old, apparently not talented, and it doesn't even pay well.

I thought I had a decent chance because I live near a major city, am technically inclined, and have been told all throughout my life I have a good voice.

It's just embarrassing almost being 30 and realizing you've had some childish career goal.

Kinda relatable. I'm pushing 30, and voice work is about the only thing in the world I can see myself enjoying. But it's a pipe dream, so I never put any stock in it :v

In the west, even the best voice actors will get ignored when it's time for big movies. Look at how people like Jennifer Hale get treated. She is maybe the biggest name in female video game voice acting for English game dubs

But she has never been asked to be in an animated Hollywood movie. Those always cast normal actors, even though voice acting is totally different from real life acting. They rather use people who don't know what they are doing but are famous, then some video game person

Every once in a while you get someone who can do both like Robin Williams.

30 is pretty young, a lot of people never got big until they past 30 but also try to find other things you enjoy and have passion for

Maybe he means he's too old for that to be his sole pursuit? I guess at some age you gotta stop chasing those pipe dreams and start doing things that'll pay some bills and give you a savings.

i don't think it's childish at all! it's your passion and that's that, there's nothing childish about realizing you have a strong interest and wishing to pursue that. it's your dream after all, and we all have dreams of different varieties. On the contrary, i believe that it is far more childish to disparage your dream and call it childish just because you've run into difficulty when you're not even halfway into the average lifespan yet. keep doing what you want, though still be aware of the downsides of being a voice actor as well
