The urge to "get the calls right" was understandable at the time, but the examination allowed by slow-mo video has resulted in an inane dissection of rulebooks in every sport where replay review has been introduced. Think about the catch rule in football, or players being called out because they slid over the base for a millisecond in baseball. Rather than end refereeing controversies, we've just expanded the category of things that can become controversial.

Reviews seem to take longer with each passing year, taking away from the drama of the rhythm and the pace of their respective games. And the lurking threat of replay means that important moments are undercut by the question of whether they'll be overturned minutes after the fact.

Nah, I'd rather the call be right. Perfect games, WS wins, etc., have been stolen from players due to bad calls.

Thought this was going to be about brutal injuries. Like broken legs or concussion hits. Where they replay them over and over.

The worst use of replay is in basketball when the ball goes out of bounds. They will spend 20 minutes trying to see if the ball brushed against your microscopic fingerprints, which even with 4k cameras and slow motion is still impossible to see with certainty.

Historically out of bounds calls were decided instantly and it was no drama.

I like replay in most situations but this one bugs me. It impacted the NCAA title game a few years ago.

That, and every call that requires some degree of interpretation. It's wild that flagrant fouls are adjudicated by replay, to give a basketball example.

I agree when it comes to basketball. They can't seem to figure that shit out and it's by far the most egregious example.

When it comes to football and baseball, I disagree. Blown calls seem to matter much more in those sports, especially baseball.

I'd rather the call be right. Close enough leads to one team being screwed over. Though they still can't figure out what a catch is in football.

Pretty much the reason I stopped watching any pro basketball.

Yeah. Its weird cause they dont take all that time at the beginning of the game to look at replays. Im like the calls at the beginning are just as important as the calls at the end.

But also i love me some olympic basketball. Different rules, better game imo.
