Very similar to Quibi as well. Couldn't capitalize on a great opportunity and blamed said opportunity as the main reason their streaming service couldn't take off.

Even world of warcraft gained users during covid. How does Google, one of the most powerful information-focused companies on the planet, not know that this shit was a bad idea?

Did they do no research? Are there no #Gamers in the entire company?

Its not a bad idea, it was actually the perfect time like the tweet said but they fumbled even when they could have had the biggest chance to work it.

Hell, in hindsight, it felt a little coincidental for it to happen at the perfect time

Animal Crossing coming out right at the start was another coincidence...probably sold more than it would have expected if there was no pandemic.

There's a reason developers are staying away from new Google platforms.

- Google makes a small team to come up with some great new idea.
- The team does a great job at identifying a niche and building the core functions of the product.
- Higher ups want to integrate everything into the Google-sphere, mucking it up.
- Google pulls resources away from the product right as it launches to work on new cool products.
- Old product dies within two years.
