My size has been between 10.5 and 11, depending on the brand. I've been getting mostly 11s in athletic shoes since I liked that little bit of space in the front, so when I run my toe doesn't smash up against the front.

I got it measured today and it turns out my left foot is size 10 and my right foot is size 10.5. I actually tried on some size 10 shoes and they fit perfect, a bit snug on the sides but the front was fine.

should I call a toe truck?

Every shoe manufacturer uses a different foot model (shoe last) for what is supposed to be the same size shoe and can even vary between styles manufactured at different factories. So the fault isn't necessarily those foot measurement devices rather than the shoe manufacturers who themselves refuse to establish an industry standard so that all shoes of a specific size will fit the same no matter what brand or style you choose.

I was in my late 20s when I learned I should be wearing a size smaller, but wide. But buying wides can be difficult so I haven't really implemented this in my life.

Well the store I went to was Allen Edmond. I tried the 10, 10.5, and 11. They all fit fine to me, but the dude pointed out that on the bigger sizes it was loose on the sides and my heel lifted out just a tad when i walked. He also said with these nice shoes over time the leather breaks in and it gets much more comfortable.

Yeah they measured mine and said I had been getting them too long and I was like "Hey watch it lady " but she told me I needed extra wide and I was like "hell yeah got that girth "

10 for shoes and 10 wide for boots.

But up until 10 years ago I wore 9 .

Done that before.

Will put a hella of a blister on the back of your heel.
