Started out the series as a typical housewife with a full, loving family.

By the end of the series:

• Her husband is dead.
• Her son is dead, and was in fact Kira all along (and is indirectly responsible for his father's death).
• Her daughter is so traumatized from being kidnapped that she's left mute and bound to a wheelchair, with nothing said if she ever recovered.

I can't imagine how much therapy the poor woman needs (well, if Japan didn't stigmatize therapy).

In the manga her daughter might have recovered some as she was celebrating her coming of age party in a panel or two. Still not talking in it but it at least provides some reason to hope.

The 13th volume of the manga is a bonus compilation of details about characters plus interviews and stuff. There's a personality quiz and it states that the only truly good main character was Soichiro. Just a dad who loved his family and was willing to die with his son if he found out his son had been Kira. And his personality and morals were enough to get several members of the task force to stay on instead of return to normal duty. He was basically everyone's dad and role model.

Of course the real victim in the entire series is Misa. Traumatized and became obsessive and then got used so horribly and lost her memories multiple times just to end up losing the only remaining person she could rely on and he'd been cheating on her. :( Killer Misa is bad, but end of series Misa has no awareness and just... Killed herself.
