I'm sure I've got enough legendary weapons to beat the big bad dragons.

First couple of turns if chapter 16 going real well until....convoy full!

100 slots is not enough.

Chapter 18 was the first time in this game I really felt like I had to hold points, which I felt was slightly lacking so far. Thankfully I was able to luck out in regards to killing the boss with CRITS, and the reinforcement hell didn't overwhelm me.

Having my flyers benched for what appears to be multiple chapters here is rough, though...if only there was something I could have done about that.

Well, it sounds like you should've used Shin as well, since you ended up in Sacae anyway.

Oh I did use Shin! The numbers were just too far in his favor.

I'm finishing up chapter 20 now, bolting, sleep staffs, and berserk staffs would have ruined me...if I didnt use all of my own to my advantage! Bolted the Bolters (I used Hammerne on it earlier, super happy about that, my Lilina is gonna end up 20/20 by the end of this and she's a God), Berserk'd a mage in the boss room on turn 1 and it killed every other enemy in the room besides the boss and itself. Had to sleep a ballista to sneak Thany in as well. Feels like I got reaaaal lucky with this one!

I had brought and Angelic Robe to use on Roy, but through it on Niime when I saw she had 25 God damn HP. Pretty sure that saved her from the other Ballista.

Theoretically I could bring a whole bunch of D rank light magic into a map with an arena and savescum Saul....

You can cheese the FE6 arena with support bonuses. Though I don't think even that can truly protect Saul from +30 crit Swordmasters.

If Thany/Tate have gained more levels than Sue/Shin, you go to Ilia instead of Sacae. Since it's full of derpy burdened Peg Knights instead of fast accurate ranged Nomads with +10 crit Short Bows, it is generally considered to be much easier. (Also Sacae has a few BS gimmicks and the super-evasive Swordmaster On A Gate boss.)

Yeah, using an Angelic Robe on Niime is the right option, since it lets her actually take a hit so she can be used in combat. Nostanking is a decent option in this game since it has the same accuracy as Flux, but you can't Nostank if the first hit kills you.

I never used the other dark mage dude and obviously Sophia didn't work out, so seeing the glass cannon stats and weapon ranks on this old lady sure is satisfying.

Yeah, Niime takes a little bit of investment (Angelic Robe and Body Ring, though there's not really much competition for the latter), but the end result is great. I just wish she started with S rank dark magic, because it is a little bit of a pain to get her there. It's too bad you used up your warp staff so you don't get to see Niime's true potential, but being able to Physic the entire map is a nice taste of it.

I also only relatively recently discovered that starting with FE7 as my first and getting the bad advice of 20/20 being the only way, followed by playing PoR next which is one of the only legit 20/20 games completely warped my perception of promotions. I even played through Awakening with that mindset and thinking on it now, it probably ruined the class system for me!

Not sure if you're aware, but if not you should know the +5 magic from Apocalypse will also apply to your staff range, healing and status accuracy while it's equipped.

Explains why I was ably to Physic all the way to the other side of the map with her! Came in clutch to heal Cecilia.

I mean it was just the schoolyard understanding! Knowing to wait until 20 meant you were IN, you had those REAL STRATS.

The +5 magic is the real reason I wished Niime started with S rank dark magic. Every ranged staff is 1-magic, so you get a unit with 26 range staves, and 18 range warp. Her only flaw is that she can't use the Saint's Staff, but Yoder can use it for free and your stats don't matter for it.

Lilina is able to kill these endgame Manketes in one round with Thunder....

So like....

Arguably this was my first difficult FE. I don't remember enough of the GameCube games to say that for sure, but this is definitely the first time I was having PROBLEM, even with save states. Some of those throne bosses are a nightmare.

There's QoL stuff to miss as well of course, no universal enemy range, very small convoy space, can't use items at the base menu.

There were times I hated it!

But the rawness of it and the straightforward nature of the builds was, like....really appealing??

I liked FE11 and especially 12 plenty, but it wasn't anything I would call *memorable*. Each map I did one after the other, didn't think back on it much, was never really worried.

Here it was like...I had to be focused, every little decision mattered. Even with save states I had to restart maps from scratch a lot early on.

You start out feeling weak as hell. There's a part around the maps 7 - 12 range or so where you felt real powerful, and then it's back to being tough. Some of it was straight bullshit, I ended up on the Sacae path and those maps were HELLLLL ON EARTH. And sometimes it was a slog, a lot of the x maps were real boring.

But I can't hate it. I have a feeling I'll think worse on it after playing FE6 for the first time since launch and Seth Emblem for the first time ever, but right now it's standing strong.

Roy sucks though lol. Not even just as a unit because of the endgame promote, but he has, like, NOOOOOO presence on this story. It's like it's all just being told at him. Forget my own personal Resistance nightmare.

The story was kind of the most frustrating part, because there was neat stuff but it was like it was all happening elsewhere to other people. The second to last map is just a dude telling you the plot. When people say Roy is the worst lord I think him being the worst Lord sotrywise is a factor in that.

Zephiel was cool though. Him attacking Cecilia was probably the coolest scene in the game.

So....god this is tough! I'mstarting to think it's really tough to rank FE games. FE6 gave me a new appreciation for what classic FE is like, I think it's really IMPORTANT that I played it, but like.....I mean I would definitely not play it again!

I respect it more Tha Fates, but....I think it's gotta be last for now??

I'm really questioning my Echoes placement, but we'll see.

MVP: Lilian - one of the most powerful units I've ever had in an FE game. Could 1 hit kill most things with bolting if needed, was doing 9x2 damage with Bolting on the final boss compared to 13 damage using Fimb which...is wierd. The weakest spells were 1 rounding end game enemies. On the infiniyte wyvern reinforcement chapter she got attacked on enemy phase by 6 Wyverns in one turn, never got hit, and killed them all. Un freaking believable.

MWP: Allen - Allen never doubled once in the entire game before I benched him for Percival, even adte roromkting AND using a speed wing. This would have been as bad if he could actually do damage, but other than the boss I promoted him to defeat he never did anything of note. Truly one o the biggest dissapointments relative to investment.

Definitely not anywhere close to how I would order the games personally but hey as long as you're enjoying them

I personally feel like both Binding Blade and Sacred Stones are very middle of the road games but for entirely different reasons, and I like replaying Binding Blade more than most in the series.

Am kind of hankering to play through the series again at some point... honestly I kind of fell out of love with the franchise at some point in the last 8-10 years but it used to be my favorite when I was a teen/early 20s. Like I still enjoy playing the games but not to the extent I used to, I mean.

A lot do the game on the list I haven't played in a very long time. In fact, other than 3 Houses, I wouldn't trust my current ranking of anything not played for this topic as being reliable.

I think most people's FE rankings are kind of all over the place. Don't know that there's many entries in the series that I'd say there's some kind of general consensus on, except maybe Fates?

I personally despise Blazing Sword, for example, and as time has gone on I've started to kinda feel the same way about Awakening too.

Why slow down I say, Seth Emblem starts today!

I am tackling this one slightly differently. I occasionally looked ahead on recruits a chapter or two into Binding Blade, and looked up what was needed to get the good ending, but I didn't, like, plan ahead REAL far, thus my worry about leveling units I didn't want to use early on.

However, knowing there's multiple paths in Sacred Stones, I wanted to take advantage of that an make sure I used completely different characters in both paths. As such, I won't be making a save file for the split as originally planned, and will be doing it all from the start both times to divy the experience optimally.

I've been looking into spoiler free Stat information and such for these quite a bit, and wanting to keep the roster carried and balanced, think I have settled on what I want to do.

I know some of these units are supposed to be bad, and I'll deal with that. I do want to know if there's any actual PROBLEMS with these teams that will cause worry in the long run.

A lot of these choices were based on which path recruits said characters earlier on.

You should definitely do Eirika normal mode and then Ephraim hard mode. For reasons.

I'm assuming that's because the game is just easier in general? Or is there content in hard I won't get on normal?

With the way you've divided the characters, there's a couple of lategame chapters where you'll have more slots than characters to bring, even if you bring in Dozla/Syrene/Myrrh as filler. It's also been a while, but I think the final chapter forces both Eirika and Ephraim, though it's not too difficult to keep the one you haven't trained away from combat.

Oh I'll be using both lords for both routes, def. The site just wouldn't let me copy over.

Man, they REALLY feed Erika early here, it's kind of hard to avoid!

FE8 is probably the easiest game in the series imo

Yeah even with the recent casual mode in later FEs where you can just blitz chapters without worry, I'd still say FE8 is the easiest game in the series.

You pretty much have to ignore casual mode when determining difficulty.

Echoes, for example, was easy, but I had characters "die" like 30+ times, and for some of those I have no idea how I could have made it work if I had needed to avoid that.

I tend to think FE7-9 have the best roster with regards to unique, interesting characters. Awakening, Fates, and 3 Houses meanwhile have a number of stand outs but also quite a few tropey losers, though 3 Houses less so than the other two.

Phoenix mode in Fates removes all way of losing in most maps (can probably lose a defend map but I've never tried it).

Level ups and weapon levels just popping off like candy by chapter 5 here.

It's such a stark contrast going from 6 to 8, I imagine replaying 7 first would have eased it in more gradually.

I wonder if anyone ever made a mod to give Awakening characters feet

I agree with this! Granted when I made my ranking of the FE characters, Fates/Houses wasn't out yet but I believe my Top 20 was dominated by those three games. No one from Fates would sniff the top 50 while Houses definitely have a few that would be good...hm maybe I should revist that list.
