For sure. Not trying to knock him but being a baseball player doesnt mean hes in peak physical shape.

Bartolo Colon is evidence of that.
Bartolo Colon 1) is not an everyday player 2) is not considered one of the strongest players in the league, like Alonso is and 3) no one said every baseball player is in peak physical shape, jut that Alonso is.

Body image in media is a serious issue.
It's been talked about and evaluated for decades now.
If you think it's a "made up narrative" then you're entirely beyond help.

I'm perfectly comfortable in my body and with my life.
I just know that media and social media have been a huge detriment to mental health as far as body image goes, across both genders.

Maybe look up some studies on the topic before looking like a fool.

I dont need to look up anything. TV isnt real life. Go outside and touch grass maybe youll remember that. Seems people have forgotten.

People are way too caught up in all that. If you are secure with yourself what happens on TV doesnt matter.

But that's what this topic originally about. How the media sets outrageous standards of what's considered "masculine" in men or "beautiful" in women, and how, like women moving towards being "beautiful" no matter what the magazines say, men are now accepting the same thing.

So you're basically saying exactly what the original post in this topic is supporting.

You must be a Mets fan or something, the guy is a phenomenal ball player but he is not in "peak physical shape" lol

He's saying the problem doesn't exist.
Which is incredibly ignorant and harmful.
All he's doing is propping up the existing problem, and insulting people because he has no argument.
His stance is not based in science or fact, but in the fact that he's ignorant and apathetic.

My original statement was that he's considered a "premier athlete". Others said he was in peak physical shape.

The point was going back to the Media perception of how you need to look like Thor to be considered "In Shape", where as Alosno looks to be anything but "in shape" yet he's one of the strongest players in the league.

Yes. I'll stand corrected rhat "peak shape" was bad word choice.
I should have simply said "in very good shape" and left it there.

The problem is not the content the problem is who people choose to idolize. I grew up watching movies and I never wanted to be like them. I wanted to be like my older brother. You choose who sets the standard not the television.

The media is only as powerful as we let them be.

Yes. That's exactly what everyone was saying SHOULD be happening.

But it isn't.

You're basically being the "Want more money? Get a better paying job!" guy.

No Im actually addressing the root problem which is mental health. Lets say they change the standard to something else, what happens if you dont like that one either? It doesnt solve the problem.

The only way to solve the problem is to change the behavior causing it which is people idolizing TV stars. That isnt content creators problem to solve.

The problem is a combination of both. Media presenting the idea that a certain way is the ONLY way to attract the opposite (or same) sex.

But that's slowly changing. Example: fashion models having more "normal" body proportions. Certain media and ad campaigns pushing the idea that whatever you are is good enough.

Your suggestion it to basically live life in a bubble and reject all outside influences to create your own narrative. And for the majority, that's impossible.

One could even say your idea to idolize your brother is unhealthy behavior, as you should strive to be your own person, not emulate someone else.

Impossible why? Please tell me why full grown adults can not make the distinction between things clearly fabricated and real life?

Youre basically saying people are mindless drones that just react to their environment with no choice of their own. Its not true.

The answer is definitely somewhere in the middle but changing the standard will never change the fact that whatever standard it is cant accommodate everyone.

That's not what I'm saying.

And it's not clearly fabricated. For men, being attracted to a certain body type (slim waist, wide hips and bust) is a genetically predisposed attraction for mating purposes.

Same for women being genetically attracted to men with broader shoulders.

All the media does is lean into that.

But that's why there is a push to changing the narrative to being the new standard is that there is no standard.

Love what you love. Look however you want to look.

The whole idea of this thread is how there's finally pushback to the "media standard" of what it means to be attractive. People are now doing exactly what you're saying they should do. They are creating their own standard that changes from person to person.

Furthest from the truth. I do empathize with people but at the same time nobody can help you until you help yourself. If you feel that TV is causing you negative thoughts then maybe step away from the TV.

I just remind people that we all have choices. Thats all it comes down to really. You can do whatever you want, believe whatever you want. Nobody has to listen to these fools they put on TV everyday.
