what about the dark and brooding theme and thematic choices for worlds? Backwater swamp, inside a bee hive, thorny brambles, amusement park, inside a volcano, secret frankeinstein type lair, pirate ship

the bosses were really cool as well. Fight a giant condor who later returns for vengeance as a ghost. 1 on 1 in an aerial battle against a giant bee. Giant floating sword. The intro with their eyes popping out of their head and their echo'd monkey scream was a really neat touch as well; I think they reused it from battle toads

edit: although the last boss in DKC1 was pretty crazy when k.rool gets back up after the credits roll

Tropical Freeze may be harder, DKC 2 is the full package.

What did you guys think of DKC3?

I thought the environmentalism message was incredibly powerful. However it was downplayed by its visuals. The game was bright and showcased the beauty of the outdoors. But this came with a cost. It didn't give me an awe factor. It didn't have the unique aesthetics of the first game or even the second. There was just always some sort of message behind each level that criticized human impact on nature. And while beautifully communicated it didn't make me feel like I was on an epic quest.

Don't get me wrong though, the level in DKC3 showcasing dixie and kiddy fleeing a forest that was actively being chopped down delivered a strong message while being quite suspenseful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TTdvQ4S7CU
