They have a fire around every other day (even in rain), and throw parties like 2-3 times a week. I've never really thought of this before, but I just realized that instead of buying logs, they systematically cut down their trees to burn it.

The fact that they're heavily thought to be doing a lot of drug(or making them) from the other smells then wood burning and that they have children makes this incredibly concerning. Who just casually cuts down their trees for firewood in general? Especially in the middle of a large fire? Like am I wrong for thinking all of this is ridiculous?

People have called the cops on them a bunch, it won't do any good.

I'm not gonna kill them over this, it's just really fucking annoying. Yesterday they just casually decided to have a fire for 4 hours in the rain because "it was nice"

Like parts of my house and some of my clothes still smell bad. They had stopped for a while but now it's getting bad.

Are they on their own property? If yes, mind your business.

Yes they are, however they're the street behind my house, so whatever the burn from cigarettes to plastic, to wood, to drugs comes in through my ac or fan. Also, they've almost burned down my house with their insane 15 + foot fires.

I though since they seemed more well off, they'd maybe split half decent fire wood than just destroy their own trees on a whim? Maybe that is more normal for people who have fires everyday for hours on end, I don't know.

They will run out of trees eventually. Just give it time

If they do it that often, the price adds up fast. They will eventually run out of trees. Hide your kids.

How close is their fire pit to other structures/fences/trees? Might be worth a call to the fire marshal if is too close.

It's like 25-30ish feet away from my back deck and my neighbors shed. Maybe 10 feet from their roof. They've set their roof on fire a little a few times. It can get scary.

Thank you. The smell from them burning random shit even from trees that they have is horrible. They're burning the leaves and everything. Not all trees are meant to be firewood.

I cut my own firewood but I live on land just outside of the city limits. The woods I have generally have atleast a few big dead oak trees a year that need cut anyways so I'm not killing any.

I've done that, they mostly just get fines that they either don't care about or are just too stupid to stop.

They're also known drug users. It's just questionable to whether or not they're using the fire to cover up making or using drugs there. Occasionally there's a bad chemical smell. It really sucks.

Seasoned wood also produced less smoke.

That has been attempted, I think one kid got taken away for a while and came back later. No one seems to care about these people except for the people living here. I know someone that was there went to jail too.

Part of me wonders if the cops let this happen to bust people who go there, because of how ridiculous it is. The music alone can be heard from like a block or two away during parties, along with the disgusting smell of smoke.

The DEA isnt going to care about a collection of addicts. Theyll only care if there are large quantities being stored / sold from there.

Youre better off getting a local agency to investigate it; local guys can snag a couple outstanding warrants, maybe put enough pressure on the occupants to disperse.

If you live in any type of populated area, especially a city, youll have city ordinances on the books for recreational fires as well.

Quick tips on how to tell if there are drug sales occurring, which might help get a better response:

1. Frequent, short-stay traffic; people show up either on foot or via car and leave within 10-15 minutes at various points of the day.
2. Abnormal purchases for people of their economic background. If theyre buying new vehicles, ATVs, etc., but nobody works, their money is coming from illicit activities.
3. Surveillance equipment. Typically, addicts arent overly concerned with security. Drug dealers are.

If you think there might be drug sales, document frequent license plates of visitors. Document times the residence is the most active. Tell the police what your trash pickup is (trash pulls are an excellent investigative tool).

If none of this is occurring and theyre just nuisances, call for the code violations and safety hazards. Call the fire department when the fire gets out of control; theyll put pressure on the police to cite the residents if they keep getting called out.
