Can't really use the argument that the 3080 had price gouging after launch, because we can only assume the same is going to happen this time. Except this time the MSRP is double.

If you want the card bad enough then you'll preorder it as soon as the it's available. Same goes for consoles. This isn't a new thing to be upset over. If you don't like scalpers then don't buy 3rd party and wait a year or more for prices to go back to retail.

At least Jensen Huang seems to be "More Honest" on how much he thinks his Video Cards are worth.

Those are very bold statements.

We're talking double to quadruple the frame rates of a 3080ti.

Mind you I hated how much the 2070 costed when it launched and I was sort of happy with the 3070's price. This is a whole new level of absurd.

The 4070 is going to be worse than the 4080 12GB, and the 4080 12GB is worse than the 3080 Ti. Its clock speed is the only thing that's better than last gen's cards. Basically, you're buying it for DLSS 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 bandwidth. I'd love to see it stacked up in actual performance vs Ampere.

It's like the PC gaming market is always a couple of steps away from being able to displace a large chunk of the console market but they just don't quite get there.

Can't help but think it's almost on purpose at this point. Valve can't do it all on their own.

It's funny because NVIDIA doesn't have nearly the bandwidth or infrastructure to distribute their own shit like Apple. They have to have best buy sell their cards. They can't open Nvidia stores all over the world, they're 15 years away at least.

I don't think he realizes just how precarious nvidia's position is. AMD caught Intel with their pants down in nearly the exact same way. $699 for a 7800 XT that performs like the $1,199 3080 is well within something they can do.

In the long run, AMD actually made Intel a much better company. By all accounts, alder lake were great CPUs.

And Intel became an unexpectedly great company in the low end, with the i3 12000 series being excellent values.

Neither 4080 looks great for productivity from that chart. Is there a chart like that with the 4090 stats?

I'm going 7800 xt.

AMD has been executing and sticking to their roadmaps and their claims of performance for years now. RDNA 3 should be up to 2x RDNA 2 performance at slightly higher TDP. Probably will max out at ~425W(6950X was 400W) for their top SKU. Igor's lab actually has a schematic of the PCB and it allows for a maximum of 450W.

Given the duopoly, 5 years at least before intel is even a factor and their history of price fixing the AMD cards won't be cheap either. I'd guess it'll go like this for the 7800 and up:

7800 - $599-$799
7800XT - $899 - $1099
7900XT - $1299 - $1499

Long term, when your supplier is your biggest competitor its time to go. They are basically behaving with impunity and huge support so theres nothing EVGA can do but leave with grace.

As the recession sets in, NVIDIA will just overcharge to maintain their margins so they literally dont care about volume sales at that point. If they can sell one card for 3x its worth then they only need to sell a third of the volume to maintain margins. They couldnt be happier.

If AMD was the peoples champ things might be different but they are just gonna pick up the volume sales. Intel was intending on doing that but really their cards were too bad to be sold domestically.

The 4080 12 GB should've been a 4070.
Everything was pointing to that SKU being the 4070.

Then Jensen said NOPE, bump it up, can't give the plebs too much gain for a cheaper price.

So that's how it goes. Jensen Huang controls everything with an iron fist and you'll like it.

AD102 = 4090 Ti / TITAN should have 144 SM's, the current 4090 has 128 SM's, so you're getting one of the lower binned/cut-down chips.
AD103 = 4080 Ti / Super should have _84 SM's, the current 4080 has _76 SM's, so you're getting one of the lower binned/cut-down chips.
AD104 = seems to be a perfectly binned 60 SM's released to the end user. So instead of placing AD104 as the 4070, Jensen decided to push it up the product stack to be the 4080 12 GB and charge more for it. It also makes you wonder how cut down the actual 4070 will be then.
