Did your parents or anyone you know have a water bed? What a weird concept. They were kinda noisy and Im not even sure how you went about with upkeep or dismantling.

I distinctly remember my parents owning one in the 90s.

I never used it so I have no idea how comfortable they were though.

One of my sisters and one of my aunts/uncle had one, lol. The upkeep for them is pretty terrible.

The 80s/early 90s had some pretty derpy ideas....like cushioned toilet seats and bathrooms with carpets. Hmm hmm, mold and bathroom carpet piss stains.

My aunt had those too lol. But she lived by herself back then so that wasn't an issue.

I swear every other uncle and aunt on both sides of the family had those damn things in those days, lol. The faux leather toilet seats aren't too bad since they are easier to clean, but the carpet'ish types is like.......you can smell the rank/feel the damp when you sit on'em and its the most gross shit ever. Especially the aunts/uncles that have a lot of kids also, so you already have that feeling that most of your dude cousins don't pull up the seat/aim in general when they piss, lmao.

I'm glad we moved on to scientifically engineered comfortable mattresses, I like ones that are a combination of both firm and foam

Remember when pillows actually had feathers in them, and they sometimes stick out and poke your cheek lol? I'm also glad we moved on to better designed pillows

Same.

It had like six individual tubes full of water with a firmer top piece. Ended up being super comfortable but a pain in the ass to disassemble for moving.

I was probably conceived on one. My parents later my mother had one until around the time I finished college.

Later my brother got one of his own but refused to take care of it so he couldn't keep it.

Finally my grandparents had a custom bed where my grandfather slept on a firm mattress and my grandmother slept on a twin sized waterbed. Eventually my grandpa convinced grandma to get rid of it for something more conventional.

There were a couple of eras with waterbeds. When they were just gaining popularity back in the 70s they were just water in a bladder. You sloshed and rode the wave. I didnt like those even as a kid. Heaters werent that sophisticated either.

In the 90s, high end mattresses had foam and fiber layers, which prevented the sloshing so much that someone could jump on the bed and youd hardly feel it, and heaters were a lot better too.

I had a California King with one of those high end mattresses for 5-6 years. My wife at the time wanted it. She had wanted one as a kid and they were still popular enough.

Unfortunately, we were just coming up, so we moved a lot. 4-5 times in half as many years. It would take a good 12 hours to get that bed all set up and warm. Maybe longer. Sleeping on cold water is a no go. Double unfortunately, I also had an 80 gallon aquarium. Our last move, I hired movers, and tipped one mover the bed and the other, the aquarium. Never regretted it. It was like a curse had been lifted.
