Am I supposed to just eat chicken breast 7 days a week? Don't know any other protein sources.

Well there's fish, I dont really like most types but I could eat that to break up the monotony of chicken everyday.

Tofu, beans, nuts, seitan, lentils, oats, broccoli, etc.

Stop assuming you have to eat meat to get your protein.

Fiery red single joint inflammation is the Hallmark sign of gout, but you can actually have polyarthropathy as well. It's caused by deposition of uric acid crystals into joints. The way to prevent gout is to either reduce protein intake or take a medicine like allopurinol, which inhibits production of uric acid

There's growing evidence that if you just take a low-carb approach, you can just eat all the meat you want. Carbs and sugars (which are carbs) are showing to take a large part of gout formation.

Carbs and heavy meat consumption? Gonna have to lop off your foot though

Gout is caused by excess purine degradation - basically, breakdown of proteins and peptides. I don't really see a situation in which carbohydrates (which have a completely separate metabolic pathway) would worsen gout.

Allopurinol inhibits Xanthine Oxidase, which decreases uric acid production (your body can still excrete excess xanthine).

Gout's a form of arthritis and sugars n the ilk are a large contributor to inflammation in most western diets. It doesn't get rid of the uric acid as much as it helps your body be more able to tolerate and handle it

a whey protein shake has 64 grams of protein in it (made with unsweat soy milk) per 12-16 ounces.

plus it's even healthier than a chicken brest (42g of protein).

meat sucks, bodybuilders are mostly plant-based these days. (i know whey is dairy)

It will bring more uric acid into the body, yes. But altering carbs (and I guess technically I should rephrase this to low glycemic index foods -but I associate them as the same for the most part) will change crystals being formed in the joints.

The reason why uric acid turns to crystals in the foot/big toe more often than other parts is because of temperature. The temperature being cooler in the foot, due to poorer circulation/inflammation, will cause the acid to crystalize. Eating foods low on the glycemic index -and only only foods low on it, will improve their vascular condition which will help remedy gout. This is because of the insulin/insulin resistance/blood glucose levels relationship

The reason why you shouldn't put heat on the foot to help with this is because it'll cause more inflammation and you shouldn't cool the area because it'll crystalize even more.

That's the working theory anyway

I was diagnosed with gout a few years back, but it was a result of a severe break rather than my lifestyle. I did not know that was possible.

It means that generally I can still eat however I normally would, but if I aggravate the old injury then I suddenly have to be really careful what I eat, drink more water than seems humanly possible and pump myself full of anti-inflammatory meds if I dont want to be laid up in excruciating pain for a few days.

Gout is no fucking fun at all. Serious pain when a full on flareup happened. The worst was when trying to sleep. Had to hold my foot in a specific position to avoid pain, and once I fell asleep enough I relaxed my foot a bit and it'd hurt and wake me back up. Worst shit.

My mom gets gout too, which apparently women getting gout is rather rare. Woo genetics!

Got on Allopurinol and haven't had a flareup since the first week (which is apparently normal when you first start taking it)

There's always a stable of villains that alternative medicine quacks can blame. Carbohydrates, processed foods, msg, etc. None of these diseases are new; even Egyptian pharaohs suffered from gout in 2500 BC. Gout is a problem of protein metabolism. That's it.

You can twist over backwards and say that as long as you eat almond pancakes while doing a handstand during yoga, you won't have gout, but it's all a bunch of bullshit.

As far as dietary changes, reducing the amount of pickled and fermented foods can reduce the incidence of gout, but not by a huge amount. At the end of the day, reducing the production of uric acid through protein metabolism is the solution.

The saddest thing about MSG is that it's literally just glutamic acid, which is one of the amino acids that make up every protein in your body. Not only is it "natural," it's one of the easiest things to metabolize as it's a single amino acid that your body can absorb and integrate with almost zero difficulty.

I never said to go against conventional, proven, effective medicines or treatment. Please do, I would follow that advice without hesitation. I just said a low carb/no carb diet could be a way to deal with it.

Yeah, it's part of the frontline personal health crowd's new age 'science', but a lot of health and diet science comes from testing these ideas. Trials and research will always lag behind this crowd, but that stuff is what always separates the progress/break throughs from the bro-science.

Your argument was reducing the uric acid coming in, that's a proven solution. My argument was geared more towards getting it out, not as proven. That's why I phrased it as a theory.

Yes gout can happen in people who do everything perfect and can form naturally on it's own, but if we're both going to suggest that it occurs from diet, then I wouldn't exactly say a modern diet is 'natural' with as much crap is processed. It's a 'Mother Earth is best' mentality, yes, Ill agree.

I wasn't attacking you or your field, I was just floating it more for conversation not a cure. Please poopoo it if it's meant to be poopooed upon. Im not married to it

Gout sucks, and you can try to control your flare ups with diet and tons of water, but your body is genetically predisposed to create high level of uric acid which will lead to flare ups. Get on Allopurinol and never be afraid of a beer or a burger again. Sure it's a lifelong pill, but that's what modern medicine is all about, not having to endure that kind of pain.
