Any opinions on this manga\anime series?

Never heard of it? Seen the Mark Hamill movie? Seen the David Hayter movie?

Could Guyver count as a hidden gem at this point? I don't think it ever got that popular in the States in the 80's/90's and that was at its height when they were making movies and TV shows and Guyver probably saw its fair share of merchandise back then. I have fun with the concepts of Guyver though. It's memorable and I think the first arcs are very successful. I like the name. I like the art. Rarely see anyone mention it anywhere. Along with Devilman, is one of the better Japanese superheroes though imo

I think both the new and old anime have strong points and that the manga is great throughout. The David Hayter one was amazing.

What would you want from new Guyver media, if anything?

I have seen Guyver but I forget most of it. The animation was almost the same as Zeorymer which I also mostly forgot aboutm

I agree with the poster who said that Guyver: Dark Hero (Guyver 2) is the best live action adaptation of an anime.

David Hayter (Solid Snake's famous voice actor) plays Guyver in like his only notable live action role

Idea was interesting. Story was bad

Anime heroes

Guyver has two or three really good moments. The initial encounter using the armor was cool. Also when the Guyver gets his ass handed to him by the monsters in the woods. And finally when they take out the enemy stronghold under the mountain. It has some good stuff with the dark mysterious supporting character who is a bit of a rival. When they start turning into pods and stuff later in the manga is interesting because it becomes like a kaiju/eldritch thing, and they almost resemble like plants or rocks as characters? It's really interesting. Never quite seen anything like it, myself

Could be fun as a thing to update Guyver as a fiction on secret identities and the Power Rangers formula, with the Guyver depicted now instead as a villain, and the audience tries to figure out which one of the group of young friends it is, because we know it's one of them. Show some real social tension where people who don't like each other are brought together by a common element. This way, they could basically film the armor exactly like the original Predator and we don't have to get too close to the details of how it works exactly. Maybe when they defeat the evil Guyver it lets the main character who got infected with a weak transformation module finally control his power, and then they fight off the other monsters, but the evil Guyver comes back as a husk and they both turn into pods lol

I'd even buy one of the Power Rangers cast back, maybe as a big brother, for that

Story could be the villains were turning people into monsters then harvesting their cores, which is how you can see the traditional Guyver vs monsters stuff, only here the lesser monsters are typically the victims and the Guyver is the villain. Fun twist on the Guyver formula and plot points already present imo

Instead do the main character like a not-so-horrific version of Tetsuo (Iron Man)

*Edits: obv up in the air, and it would be fun to think Guyver is a hero at first until we learn the truth shortly into the film, also Cyrax vs Sektor, scrap it and just make it Bio-Tron, or weird but going for Prometheus. As for th story? Less is more
