Yes, they are different. But the Spaniards had committed both. In some places they did try to exterminate the native peoples, but eventually their overall goal was the conversion of the natives.

Not only is this going out of one's way to twist words to mean something else, it's also digging up something from 7+ years ago.

Shit like this only hurts legitimate issues of bigotry. It's like the boy who cried wolf all the time.

I wish I could say it was only bad faith folks doing this, but we have genuine folks who go on the purity bs. Where they'll dig through history to find something from years and years ago. That or the types that'll twist into complete pretzels to distort what someone said.
