I think a lot of the times they secretly like it, but it only makes them feel good or they can only express themselves by being negative about it. It's like complaining about how your girlfriend is frustrating you or something

Ill never understand the reasoning for it and it really does blow my mind.

Sunk cost fallacy is right, either money, time or further dedication to it. People like to build identities around the media they consume, a lot of social media feeds are just big scrap books smeared in different shows and books and animations the person is feeling fanatical about. This gives greedy companies the ability to reach out of the screen and corrupt part of these peoples' personalities.

Sometimes the series 180s and goes from good to crap and you aren't as wildly dedicated to the point of it being a big part of who you are, it's nice to get the frustration off your chest. Sometimes you still like parts of the series so since you're going to remain in that kind of social area you might as well be ready with your issues/jokes about what happened to the series.

The fall from grace of a good series has the car accident you can't look away from effect sometimes. The Youtube clickbaiters know this, Diablo Immortal, every other Blizzard scandal, Fallout 76/Cyberpunk did big numbers and got a lot of air time. Unfortunately a lot of people think these are only temporary hiccups that'll serve as warnings to the dev, the dev releases one Cyberpunk patch and suddenly there's a horde of wannabe bots taking the high ground and giving them the Heh, don't you know we're all praising Cyberpunk now and helping rehabilitate the scam that we were victims of? treatment. 76 had it, Diablo 4 has some people optimistic. They don't think the dark times are here to stay.

Hate as in they do nothing but complain about every aspect of said medium and clearly do not enjoy it in anyway.

Sometimes I like to be mad about something dumb that doesn't actually impact my life.

I like the negative steam reviews from people that have like 500 hours+ logged

they are just riding along with the memes, seeking affirmation.

hating things will most likely becomes the most vocal, but when the opposite happens they will ride it along too.

I think a surprising amount would like to stop, but just cant. Pretty much an addiction. Ive had it a bit where Ill play a competitive game even past the point I no longer enjoy it, it can be hard to stop sometimes.

This makes sense. Some retail WoW players might be a good example. They see the clear potential in what the game was and could be, but unfortunately the end product is generally disappointing.

I played competitive NHL a lot longer than I enjoyed it because it's probably the game I'm best at overall. Feel like I spent many years getting good and playing in leagues that it would be tough to drop.

Ive always wondered about that too. Its like some weird nerd rage thing where people want to be angry about something. I remember acting like that in my teens so glad I grew out of that phase.

Life is too damn short for that shit.

It's not that weird to enjoy gameplay but be massively disappointed by story development, or vice versa. Just because there's a few bad aspects introduced to a game series doesn't mean it's not worth visiting anymore.

FF16 looks terrible to me.

Day one purchase.

They may think that their criticism will help make things better. But there is a certain point where you just have to accept it won't, and cut the rope.

Or the people who routinely go into topics on subjects they clearly have no interest in just to say how much they don't care about or think it sucks.

There are always plenty of people who complain about this thing or that thing whenever WoW gets more content.

But they still pay the $16 a month to play it.

More people needs to admit this about themselves TBH. Blind hate is real and it's something we all do to a degree unfortunately.

I've spectated this for years amongst people on the Internet. These three fandoms are the biggest culprits:

• Dragon Ball fans
• Star Wars fans
• WWE fans

When asked if they hate the product so much then why don't they just move on from it? These are the usual similar answers I get:

• I don't hate the product. I'm just overly passionate about the product and that's why me being so critical may come off as hateful
• I'm not hating or complaining about the product. I'm criticizing it
• If I don't complain then how will the product get better?

No one will admit that they take pleasure on hating it, though. Everyone always acts like they're being completely rational and justified in their hate.

I think with a lot of people it's because they used to like thing, then it started sucking, but they hold out hope that it will get good again. I used to be like this with the Simpsons, but now there are more seasons I haven't watched than ones I have

Maybe the product didn't start sucking. Maybe the people just out-grew what the product is, and then the people starts having all these crazy expectations from the product. No one ever looks inwards and always blame everything and everyone else. It can be pretty narcissistic if you ask me.

A perfect example of this is the Pokemon series. People want the game to be some sort of open world game with Pokemons and NPCs having a 24 hour movements/interactions like Xenoblade or Breath of the Wild. Those two games are graphically well done on the Switch so the logic is Pokemon can also do similar things which I think is a bad expectation.

One of my famous gimmicks is being the "Don't like it? Don't play/watch it. It's that simple" guy. A statement I like to use when people acts like something is causing chaos and havoc but they won't stop using the product.

WoW might be kind of a special case though because there are always aspects that they do very well, but then there are frequently aspects that are outright trash. Like the majority of the last two expansions have been terrible, but the raiding was still top-notch.
