The new Saints Row appears to be a decent game that is currently completely riddled with bugs, so it might end up being a good game once they fix everything, but it's probably best to wait for now.

ive seen criticism that goes beyond just technical issues. The mission design maybe feels outdated, the shooting isnt good, the characters arent interesting... I get the impression that its maybe ok if you fix a bunch of the bugs, but its never going to be very good.

seems like the kind of thing Id buy, put a couple dozen hours into, and then realize that I shouldnt have put a couple dozen hours into it. like that last Far Cry game

I'll probably have to end up playing it to get an actual opinion. Stuff like the character criticism is hard to tell which is legitimate "these characters kinda suck," and which is "woke characters waaah."

I'm getting it regardless since it sounds like SR2, just with the SR3 engine.

I think some of the character complaints are since they don't have the OG cast, and these newbies don't compare. Unclear who is open minded and who isn't, but I'm giving them a shot. I'll be waiting three months since this is bound to have a good Black Friday deal.

I'm having fun. I think the characters are okay. It really depends on what you want out of them. They're definitely younger, less experienced, and not someone who'd fit in well in Saints Row 1. But personally I wasn't looking for that, and just wanted an open world sandbox with some fun activities.

There are some story decisions I don't like. Though hopefully some of them can be fixed with expansions. (Or later in the story, I'm still not through yet).

Also there's some activities that... kind of suck. Mostly because they're stupid hard though.

I'm still only a few missions in. I really hate the story so far, but I'm hoping it picks up a bit once you actually start your own gang. The characters are whatever so far too, but maybe they'll grow on me. The driving is pretty solid, although the physics are stupid, but in a fun way, so that's fine. My biggest complaint is the shooting on a controller. The default setup is awful and it took so much tweaking to get it somewhat comfortable.

Also annoyed I took ages to create my own Boss and then none of my clothes options transferred over.

Anyway, I'll give it a few more missions, but if it doesn't pick up, I'm gonna just take the hit on the purchase and drop it.
