i had lower quality ones that actually amplified certain frequencies. it was weird. the one that stuck out was when i'd clip my nails. it was majorly amplified. was so weird.

IDK why but ANC feels pressurized to my ears so it's usually off.

I tried a few when I was looking for new headphones a few years ago. Most between $200 and $500 each. Every one I tried, I could still hear outside them perfectly, the noise cancelling made no difference.
I ended up getting a regular pair instead.

The negative is the feature. They cancel noise. If you hate outside noise distracting you then get some decent over ear noise cancelling headphones and you will be deaf to the world and be able to focus on what is in front of you. At the same time a lot of times its obviously useful to be able to hear what is around you.

this too. its a weird feel. maybe the super high end ones are better than $100 ones.

Yeah; riding the subway I absolutely notice the difference between ANC on and off, with both earbuds and over-ear headphones. Now, in neither case is it a silent bubble like commercials might lead you to believe, but I'm not feeling like I have to turn up my music volume to compete with the outside world.

I had a mid-range pair of overear headphones ($100ish) and now a high-end set of earbuds ($250)
