I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sure it's still going to be great, hopefully, but with key people who've been there forever like Dan Houser being gone, I'm a little nervous about it.

They've been working on it for 8 fucking years. I sure hope it sets some bars for something.

I swear...if they do...I'm still hopeful for the best of both worlds. Ya know, what GTAV could of been.

Damn, that probably adds another year to the release.

That is quite a promise. Personally I'd be happy if it was just as good as other gta games....and had a single player campaign. Multi only is a big no.

So given GTAO, coupled with the rest of the industry at present, I'm guessing those high bars will be:

1) more microtransactions than ever before
2) innovative new monetization strategies
3) Integration of NFTs into gaming in a way never seen before
4) some pretty graphics and an ok story, I guess
5) more cars

If it stops me from playing a singke player campaign u don't need to buy extra stuff for them I'm outie.

I don't mind storyline single player dlc bonus campaigns sold later though, I've liked a lot of those.

I read a report on Eurogamer or something that said pre-production began back in 2014. I know development shifts and morphs into different things, but they have definitely been working on GTA VI for more than a year.

Honestly GTA V never getting any single player DLC pisses me off more than anything.

with how the world is today there's pretty much no way they can surprise anyone with an outrageous story or scenario,

the only way they really could surprise anybody is to create an entirely serious game that really takes itself way too seriously like a GTA of Us or some shit.

Why do people think they'll mess with a good thing by making GTAVI Online only?

GTAV and RDR2 didn't get any single player expansions because Rockstar wasn't happy with the DLC sales for IV and RDR.

Too bad. I loved the single player dlc for 4 more than the main game.

Because RDR2 aside, GTAV is the highest grossing single piece of media in the entire history of the world, and that's owed 100% entirely to GTA online. And that's a player base they'll automatically be importing to GTAVI, unlike RDR2 which didn't have that guaranteed overlap.

Do people really think Rockstar is going to release a GTA without a massive, gold standard single player component

People were saying the same thing about RDR2, and everyone now considers it a GOAT single player experience (I found it boring, personally)

It's not 100% owed to GTA Online. It's also owed quite a lot to all 169 million copies sold to people. Which is by far the highest selling full priced game in history.

There's no guarantee it would sell as many $60 copies (or $70 copies in GTAVI's case) without single player.

Yes they made a shitload from GTA Online. But that doesn't make the single player sales useless. Again RDR2 sold 35 million copies and they have already cut off online support. That's a large chunk of people who bought a game to play single player only. You can't really put that aside when it's the literal last game they released and will be the last game before GTAVI.

Chances are GTAVI is going to be the only GTA game for another decade afterwards. It needs to fire on all cylinders.

I've said it once, I've said it twice, gamers deserve the low-bar they get. Even the haters I see here, will put money towards a practice they hate.

Realistically, it's not like it doesn't have the potential to do that. 3 & Vice City were huge and they're still pumping out copies of 5 for 60 bucks new.

Not like they're hurting for money and a playerbase to make a really amazing game again

I get the pessimism since Dan Houser left Rockstar but his brother is still there and he played a huge role in the previous games as well.
