I think the real issue is their projections for everything not FF14 are way too unrealistic so they're always disappointed by sales. They think they deserve sales because of their history but too much of what they put out is garbage lately.

Reminder that some Tomb Raider game needed to sell six million copies just to break even.

It's easy to see why the shift to whale-bait mobile moneyholes happened. Budgets got out of hand, mostly just to appease the tiny of handful of frame-counting pedantics on youtube/twitter/etc.

Meanwhile, some grossly underpowered Nintendo thing is waltzing away with the current console generation.

Netflix did the exact same shit with Stranger Things. When that show caused Netflix to get a shit ton of subscribers, any original Netflix show that couldn't even reach that matrix got immediately axed hence why you saw at one point a tons of shows getting cancelled left and right. The only Netflix show that beated Stranger Things in concurrent viewership was Squid Games but unfortunately that show didn't move subscriber counts by much.

SE is mismanaged and censor happy like Sony (actually worse than Sony, since they have insane manga censorship now), they better not censor Dragon Quest XII or they might end up going out of business.

What would they censor? DQ is pretty much always E-10 at worst. Outfits aren't very revealing with maybe a slight exception for Jessica. Violence is pretty cartoony, stories arent extremely dark, there's no bad language... It's basically what I'd expect if Nintendo made a standard turn based jrpg.

Anyway I've seen people guessing the statement was mistranslated and that what they actually mean was that those studios cost too much with little return hence how they are capitalizing the rest of the company by taking resources away.

Really hate how companies think they need to make turn based rpgs action these days. Ruining DQ, ruining Trails. At least the Yakuza devs exist.

I don't mind that change actually. Somehow when a battle goes "surprise" it's more annoying to grind than if you see those little bastards wandering around, blissfully unaware you're about to charge up and smack them in the ass with the flat of your sword to start a battle. I gleefully pounce on guys I'd maybe be cussing out for ruining my stroll otherwise.
