Unfinished, highly ambitious, amazing writing, flirts heavily with moral ambiguity and needed a considerably higher budget and dev length.

I'm starting to realize that maybe that's exactly the kind of game Obsidian should keep making. It's the flaws of their games that also give them the charm of almost-indie titles.

My only real complaint about the game is that by the end of the first world you had already seen almost everything the game has to offer in the way of enemies and weapons.

That's a pretty big complaint for a game. Similarly the level system was completely whack for a game as large as it was

Honestly I find the idea of highly ambitious developers with enough skill to make an enjoyable game but not enough money or time to actually make it AAA really charming. Spiders, the devs of Bound By Flame, Mars War Logs, Technomancer and Greedfall are like that as well.

Although admittedly Obsidian is considerably more talented. Especially in the writing department. Alpha Protocol, New Vegas and KOTOR 2 are perfect examples of being hamstrung by the publisher more than the developer's actual talent.

they really cockteased the player with tinkering, only to make the prices of doing so exponentially fucking insane for everything that isn't a science weapon, of which there are pretty few. you get treated to quite a few unique weapons early on that you just can't afford to level up with you, so you have to replace them with inferior versions that are higher level and cheaper to tinker. dropped the ball in a big way

I loved Alpha Protocol. I still play it every once in awhile. I wanted to like Greedfall but I couldn't get past the entire color palette of the game being some shade of brown.

Most of the party characters are pretty lame. Also the over reliance and "corporations are evil" as the driving force behind every joke got tedious really fast.

I found it incredibly boring. The "humour" was also quite poor. But fans treat even the slightest attempt at humour as the reincarnation of richard pryor, which i just dont get.

these were always my biggest complaints of the game, too. the diet toothpaste questline, for instance. the humor doesn't match the rest of the game

i think half of the companions are great, being Parvati, Max, and of course, the best one: SAM. the other three are kind of just wet noodles with no personality. or it takes wayyyy too long to get them to open up and learn about them

In the best and worst possible ways. And if you've played a Spiders game, you already know what I mean lol.

Obsidian is still releasing unfinished games? Some things never change.

You would think so, but you actually do the alternate storyline where you side with them, it turns out that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes.

Feel like the game was so close to being on the cusp of just being good. Like if it hit that mark I would have probably finished it but it's an incredibly mediocre game with a lot of good ideas.

Not sure whether I like this kind of "almost great" game or something like Deathloop, which is basically a nearly perfect game let down by a lack of commitment to the otherwise-great design and mechanics.

After owning it for over a year I finally started playing last week. I'm enjoying it but it's not like other games I buy, where I just want to get off work to play.

I'm making slow progress.

Ashly Burch did great there, even if the character is basically Kaylee Frye.

It's not, my thought process was "This is straight up just Kaylee" followed immediately by "I'm good with that."

writing was pretty terrible, characters were forgettable, plot was ... what? i honestly don't think anyone remembers without looking it up

and yes, definitely not enough variety.

it's not even rated highly and i'd still call it overrated.
