Why did some people hate this movie again? I watched rocketman early this year and several posts in the topic commented that they hate bohemian rhapsody, but I really liked this movie especially the first half when they were all bro-y and supportive of one another, having each others back.

I was expecting to hate rami Malek after his controversial Oscar win for this movie but I actually liked him in it too! Was really surprised overall at my enjoyment of the movie compared to the negative reaction I previously saw online.

Lastly, this movie kind of blew my mind. Almost every song that played made me go "holy crap, I know this song from that movie or show! These songs were by this band Queen all this time?"

Eg some examples, at the end of the movie they sing we are the champions (that song from the Malcolm in the middle episode where Hal Rollerblades) and that totally blew my mind. Or another one bites the dust (from that glee episode where Jonathan Groff reveals that he betrayed the glee team)

Then when they did the stomp stomp clap, I nearly fell out of my chair. I could have sworn we will rock you was a backstreet boys or Britney spears song or something. But nope. It felt like the veil was lifted like for morpheus in the matrix.

Lastly, they totally stole ice ice baby

Movie literally makes me want to do a deep dive of queen and Freddie mercury, he seems really interesting. Love the accent, and I'm totally into the big mouth and extra incisors that's totally my thing.

I'd say I like it about the same as rocketman, for different reasons. They're not 1:1, although interestingly both singers in both the movies are gay that was a coincidence

the movie is hated because of all the fake drama added to make a story when there was plenty of real life drama that was way more interesting.

Not quite Backstreet Boys but Five (stylised as 5ive) released a cover of We Will Rock you featuring surviving members of Queen in 2000. That's maybe what you're thinking of

Oh him yeah you're right I was thinking of the other manager who "lost Queen" because he wouldn't play bohemian rhapsody for them because it was too long.

Littlefinger in this movie wasn't even a bad guy he was set up by the other dude Paul who was like a male yoko (ono)

And yeah Robb also played a manager in rm good catch!

I didnt notice anything weird with the editing, in what way? Usually that stuff is noticeable in action movies that do quick cuts and sloppy camera work

Rami Maleck was a really great casting choice after Sacha Baron Cohen's departure from the film. I wish the biopic didn't stop at the Live Aid concert, though. It's an odd choice for a biopic, but I guess it does let it end on a inspirational note.

This has me curious, Like what?

The group didnt break up before Live Aid, Freddie didnt get diagnosed as hiv positive before Live aid. Deacon wasnt the original bassist and they never battled an executive named Ray Foster
Then there's the subplot Freddie going solo. Convinced by his manager to go solo first. Which in the movie Freddie fired him. Never happened.
Roger and Brian already made solo projects before that.
And the boyfriend wasn't his servant. They met at a nightclub.
There's a ton more as well.
False drama. Otherwise decent movie

Yup, it's not a very good quality biopic, but it's an entertaining film...if that makes sense.

Yeah, this is my take. If you want a semi-accurate account of Freddie/Queen, then you're not gonna get it here, but it's still a good film.

Was live aid before or after we are the world?

Also I like the casting of rami but I can totally see Sacha baron Cohen as Freddie mercury too! Wonder if he's done serious acting though

It's not terrible as far as music movies go. Whoever played Freddie did a fantastic job and the cameo by Mike Myers was a neat touch.

The last 15 minutes of the movie were fantastic.

I mean, you're not wrong. Elton John was very, very flamboyant and so very on drugs and alcohol in the 70s. Frankly I'm impressed he even survived to sober up as he has done.

Both are great movies, but BR felt like an idealised, peppy version of Freddy Mercury. I liked the in your face, no pulled punches feel of RM better.

Elvis was fantastic. I still have yet to see Ray.
