Girlfriend and I binged all 4 seasons of the show so far.

My girlfriend says she thinks the character is gay. Is he?

There's literally no way to finish season 4 and still be confused on his sexuality.

I really wonder how some of the fans of this show who don't realize he's gay interpreted that scene where he was crying in the car next to Mike lol like what do you think that scene meant

I remember reading a post from someone who said Will was crying because he was in love with Eleven himself but had to push past his feelings because he knew she loved Mike, or something like that.

One thing thats for sure is that Wills actor is a fucking good actor.

A lot of people on Twitter ship he and Mike but tbh I do not see it. I think Mike loves Eleven and is not gay lol.

Dude didn't even defend Eleven like once throughout the entire season lol he barely shows even a brotherly type bond towards her.

Mike even explained that he was afraid of getting closer because he thought she wouldn't want to be with him after a point.

That's something that was weak about the Angela plot. It relied on Will being uncharacteristically cowardly (although, with being gay I can understand not wanting a bigger target on your back) and Mike to be stupidly oblivious.

How the hell could anyone not figure this out, hell it's made crystal clear in that one scene in the car.

Not to be rude to straight people but some of them are really, really dense when it comes to not straight things, I think through a combination of the prevalence of heterosexism and homophobia.

I think a character said something about him not liking girls in season 2. Then like two references in season 3. Then confirmation in season 4 with three awkward moments accompanying it.

1. Mike & Eleven glad to see each other and Will is standing awkwardly between them in the shot but in the background.
2. The Youre the heart conversation in the van & crying
3. The conversation with his brother

The timing is always awkward because its in between scenes of other characters being in immediate danger & action

I think the show handled the subject better with Robins character.

Who the hell could not figure this out with the way he was acting different with El and Mike, the conversation in the car, and how he was the odd man out in season 2 and 3 when the others started liking girls.

I think its because he was traumatized & infected with the shadow monster and even after it leaves his body hes still getting those moments of chills when he senses the evil. Most of the time hes in a different headspace & worrying, like hes been left broken & trying to catch up with the rest of the gang.

Id say the youre not into girls remark Mike throws at him was the first actual tell and that may have been a few episodes into season 3. (Or perhaps it was in season 2)

Bullies in season 1 also used homophobic slurs at him, which normally would just be a "bullies being bullies" thing but he was the only member of the squad targeted with that

And when Joyce says that Will's dad says he's an f slur, Hopper pretty seriously asks "is he?"

I think this is headcanon only. I think there is literally no confirmation of his sexuality. He kind of maybe? flirts with Chrissy, but also kind of with Steve too. So like. And Eddie has this really awful reputation, even before he's blamed for the murders, it seems. So there could be more there left unsaid.

The funny thing about that remark is that it's Mike still ultimately being clueless (from his perspective he says it to Will because he thinks of him as a kid who isn't growing up) but still noticing something different about Will. He just has the wrong interpretation about his behavior.

I suppose a lot of people are like Mike.

Media literacy is a hell of a thing.

People just think he has chemistry with Steve. His sexuality isn't confirmed in any way, so you can just read it as you like.

Personally, I didn't think Will was gay until S4. Before then, I was getting heavy asexual vibes from him.

Eddie might have liked both men and women which makes more sense.

I think Eddie is also used to being treated like an outcast, outside of the Hellfire Club, so when people from outside of the club treat him with any kinda respect, he opens up to them.

A lot of people unsettling obsessed over the sexuality of a highschool kid...
