The amount of people I've encountered just over the weekend that are pissed about this (and not even just women) are numerous.

I feel like the U.S. will reach a breaking point very soon

Richard Nixon literally worked with the enemy side to prolong the Vietnam War and ruin the Democrat's chance of winning re-election, while killing tens of thousands of people, and destroying the environment with Agent Orange -- and nobody did jack shit.

Ronald Reagan literally screwed over the country by negotiating with Iran terrorists behind the back of Jimmy Carter - and released the 300 hostages on the very day of his inauguration -- and nobody did jack shit.

This country has seen way more disgusting and vile things than a bad SCOTUS decision and nobody cared at that time, either. We are talking prolonging entire wars for the sake of nothing else than winning elections.

The difference is this is something that's happening on American soil that's going to affect millions of Americans. People are going to feel the effects of this decision pretty much immediately

People felt the effect of 6 more years of the Vietnam War immediately, too. Caskets were coming home by the hundreds.

It's as the Joker said in The Dark Knight; people don't panic when things go "according to plan".

But millions of people being stripped of their rights in a single day?

I'm working with a group of friends to start volunteering at PP and other pro-choice organizations. So I'm not a defeatist or whatever and I will do what I can to help.

That being said, it'll probably take way longer than people think for there to be any significant change. I don't think one more Biden term will do shit.

Oh fuck no.

But I do think there's now some sort of consensus on how far gone our government truly is and acknowledging that there's even a problem has always been the thing Americans struggle with most.

Oh, this is where you realized that?

It was not when we elected The Apprentice to be our President in 2016? hehe

We just need a hard law that ends extraterritorial jurisdiction as a concept.
When someone from Utah roadtrips to Nevada for a weekend of gambling and prostitutes, Utah shouldn't be able to prosecute. Same needs to apply to abortion.

Texas basically banned abortion a year ago, and it hasn't helped Beto in the polls at all

I remember there still being quite a few people that went "Yeah Trump sucks, but so have most other Presidents, so we'll live". Then 2020 happened and all hell broke loose

I could easily see this working against us though.

Even then, extraterritorial jurisdiction is still janky.

That didn't make national news like this though. Most Americans don't really follow local politics.

Plus Beto shot himself in the foot when he talked about taking away people's guns....in Texas

Protests don't translate into votes. People will giddily flood the streets and screech to the heavens about their rights and injustice but when it comes to the polls those very same people stay home.

Never assume a SCOTUS decision is "settled law". What five justices giveth, five justices taketh away.
There's been nearly fifty years to burn it into USC, or even an amendment, but nothing's happened in favor of keeping a fragile ruling around for political purposes.

We need to consider the possibility that maybe voting isn't the long-term solution. Historically speaking, systematic disruption has produced far better results.

I don't think it's the people who are out the streets who stay home. It's the cynical people who think that a protest won't do anything, that voting doesn't do anything, combined with people who think nothing affects them, and the people who don't pay attention at all.
