I've found it difficult to gather my thoughts on this but I think it's finally hitting me.

For all the vile shit Amber Heard has done (and no, I'm not going to argue that), it's pretty wild how far people are going to defend Depp's WHILE also how quickly they throw her under the bus for every alleged thing.

Just now we had a topic on CE where someone implied that her not wanting to televise the trial is evidence of her guilt.
On reddit the other day I saw some streamer imply that she was faking her tears for the camera which you could see flashing. It later came out that the flashing was her screen changing.

A reminder. Heard is not the first person to accuse Depp of abuse, and

Maybe...and hear me out...he's not a poor victim of a smear campaign? Maybe two pieces of shit found each other and it went nuclear?

Maybe someone isn't instantly lying about everything because there are inconsistencies in their testimony? Or if does mean that...are we extending that same level of scrutiny to Depp?

I don't expect this topic to land on here but it's really interesting how different the reactions to this case are, depending on whether you're in the manosphere or reading say, the guardian.

Yeah, I agree with you. It sounds like both of them were abusive. The way people are only focusing on Heard's abuse has bothered me.

What is up with these incredibly stupid takes? She's been getting away with this bullshit for years and idiots have been defending her for years. People are happy that the lies are finally collapsing and she's being seen for who she really is.

Ive mostly tried to stay neutral and not post much on these topics because I havent really followed the entire thing and I really dont know how much of the abuse came from each side. It does seem like maybe they both were abusive shitty people.

i think people are latching onto the many accounts of Herd being a liar and not realizing Depp probably still also had a part in this, but it seems like most of her credibility was destroyed by her lies and accounts of other people who have known her

You know I can't be bothered to recount the amount of shit Amber has done throughout the years and compile them in this topic. Done that numerous times here and other places.

If you've seen all the evidence (Or non-evidence when it comes to Ambers side) and the timelines on how things went down, you probably wouldn't have made this topic. Or you still would have, and in that case I'll just leave you to your opinion.

Most of the witnesses freeloaded off Depp, did drugs and alcohol around him constantly despite the fact that amber wanted to "help" him out of his addictions. Funny, I guess her definition of help is "destroy".

They were all Ambers friends who took advantage of him and most certainly lied under oath for her.

Depps downfall began the second Amber inserted herself into his life. And what does her side do? Get all these assholes, as well as a fling from 30 fucking years ago, to all testify against him. And the kicker? They still don't have concrete evidence of ANY assault taking place against Amber despite being surrounded by all these leeches.

I kind of agree. People seem way too gleeful about ripping into Heard. Like they're actually getting joy out of it. I haven't seen the full trial, but I've seen a lot. And I've read the verdict from the UK trial that breaks down like 20+ instances of abuse in painstaking point-by-point detail. And Depp doesn't exactly come off looking like a saint, even if Heard also looks terrible.

I believe you're recounting this wrong. Amber's the only one to accuse Depp of abuse. Heard was accused of abusing her ex-girlfriend Tasya.

It has been consistent that Depp has drug problems, anger issues, jealousy, etc. but violence against women, Amber or otherwise, was definitely not one thing that has landed. He's done far more harm to himself than others.

With all that's said and done, I agree with this point. This is still a trial involving two people with alleged domestic violence.

I guess the whole point of this was to turn the court of public opinion onto Depps side, since his name was dragged through the mud for years over basic allegations and no proof.

Almost every witness was either Heards friend, or someone that fell out with Depp. And even with the people that fell out with Depp, the worst thing they had to say about him was basically "durr he was mad one time".

It's really concerning how much coverage this is getting. It's taken priority even for people who haven't even brought it into their algorithm. And the staying power of comparisons this case is going to have on victims from here on out is going to be influential for all the wrong reasons.

Like, the video of him breaking plates and yelling - which we were told was him reacting to his mother's death - was actualluly supposedly filmed months before she died. They both seemed to be toxic pieces of shit, but the fact that Heard is getting the brunt of it makes me feel uneasy for how women accusers are going to be interpreted from now on

A lot of Ambers statements dont add up based on what Ive seen in the trial so far. What about the fact that she lied under oath about donating the portion of divorce proceedings?

This too. Many contradictions were pointed out by lawyers and investigators watching the case. Even Heards own testimony is contradicting herself at this point.

This point is infuriating. Especially for women who are actually abused. Many of them have spoken out against her entirely on the point that she herself is damaging the overall view on domestic violence against women.

That's probably one of the biggest reasons why everyone seems to enjoy the fact that she is being called out so much now.

Depp's behavior hasn't been a negative for women. Damage caused to all these movements looking to help women that were unfortunately victims of abuse were all caused by Amber Heard taking advantage of said movements. It's actually my sympathy for women instead that makes me more angry at Heard for her actions

What bothers me most is the sheer amount of attention this is getting. I can't open Youtube without having videos recommended with titles like "TOP 10 moments of JOHNNY DEPP owning LAWYERS! ".

On Reddit they're making fanart of Depp's face. I even saw a thread where people claimed Heard was secretly snorting coke in the courtroom when she wiped her nose with a tissue. It's bizarre. I'll never understand this celebrity worship.

America seemingly stopped talking about the racist terrorist attack within days, but this has kept attention for weeks.

What's more you read an article, from the same media who are pretty much known to sensationalize everything, and are the reason Depp's name and career was dragged through the mud based on hearsay with no proof.

I think it's just a result of something like this being open for public consumption. People see it as an extension of their entertainment media, they don't give it the appropriate amount of weight for being actual real-life domestic abuse, and there is no nuance to it. People want a good guy and a bad guy, and they want to take a side.

This is such a simplistic take.

The cultural impact of this hurts women. This is why many, including many women, hate Amber. She lied and took advantage of a movement that was rightfully shining a light on abusers. This whole debacle deals a crippling blow to said movements.
