It's true that starting salary's are increasing, but to find a starting job over the 6 digit range is going to be very hard to find. That's not to mention that if a starting job does have such a thing, it's going to be competitive as shit. You're better off job hopping to get a higher salary range.

ha i'll believe it when I see it. Keep chasing that carrot on a stick. reminds me of the music video of bullet with a butterfly wings. all those college grads crawling over themselves for the one decent (not even high) paying salary. tons of 4.0 gpa's and they end up hiring the white guy with a great smile who doesn't even really need the job that bad

fuck man what did this world become. has it always been a joke

LOL @ thinking youre gonna get a 100k job right out of college.

Unless you made the dean's list every year in a hard major, got into tons of competitive internships for your resume, and got lucky enough to land a job at some exclusive company, you're not making that >_>

I read that the other day, I was shocked. 100k is a lot. I don't believe Gen z actually thinks they will make that much. You could probably get close to that as a comp sci new graduate in SF.

Truth be told, when I graduated from college with a liberal arts degree 10 years ago, I was hoping to land a job that pays 50k. Boy I was in for a rude awakening.

The problem is that most career guidance that students get in college list average salaries for their chosen career fields, not starting salaries.

The problem with average salaries is that it takes salaries from people of all levels of experience, from entry-level to senior, and the high wages pull that average salary up.

You don't find a lot of career counselors in college or websites talking about the entry level salaries in most careers, one, because that's hard to quantify, and two, because those that do quantify it show that they are usually really, really low. Then there's the whole question of what is an entry-level job? When you have "entry-level jobs" that require 3-5 years of experience, those "starter" salaries are going to push the average up, when most college grads won't realistically be getting those jobs.

It's not college students being dumb, it's just that their perspective is skewed due to the guidance they receive. They don't have the benefit of hindsight like college graduates do.
