Do you buy that he didn't join social media at all in those 6 years?

Minnesota Mother, Lorna Kelfsaas made a deal with her then 12 y/o son, Sivert that if he stayed off social media until he was an adult, aka 18, she will give him a hefty $1800..and he DID IT supposedly and made her proud as she gave him the nearly 2 grand gift!!

On February 19 when Sivert officially turned 18 which was her "18 for 18 challenge" his mom held up to the bargain and granted him the big money.

He said "He really did dig in. He was like, i'm not breaking this. I'm proud of because there was a few times where it was harder. I knew for sure he was going to make it."

Lorna got the idea from another mother who did a 16 for 16 challenge with her kid.

She saw how negative social media wa and it impacted her 3 other kids who got so engrossed to it and would have negative moods and issues with friendships

She thought it was a depressant and even took the phone away from her daughter when she was 16.

So the mother of 4 thought she could prevent that with her last kid who has yet to turn into an adult and offered him that challenge.

Sivert said "Being 12, i didn't really have that great of a concept of money yet. So i was like, oh sick, yeah absolutely"

Sivert said without instagram, snapchat, tiktok he was able to concerate more on school and sports like football and baseketball as he had to rely on friends to keep him up on trends

He said there wasn't a time where he thought he couldn't break it because as it went on it was more of a pride thing for him. Back then, he joked about buying a house with that money in 6 years and get a car but now he knows 1800 is chump change.

Now he's going to spend it on something for his dorm at the University of Northwestern St. Paul this fall

Lorna says it was hard for him not to join social media being a football and basketball star at his school and for her HANDSOME son being around all the "girls" who tried to get him to join.

But in the end, she's proud he did it and he avoided all the bad drama of high school.

Now at 18, he's ready to join the digital world and made instagram his first account to join..He said "it's hilarious. i feel like i'm 18. I can't seem to figure out social media. It's pretty embarrassing. I'll be with my friends and they are like, what are you doing?"

Do you buy that he didn't use social media at all over the years?

Sivert Kelfsaas, huh? Maybe his Wisdom score was high enough to pass the difficulty check.

I don't think he did it, at least not completely, but my hat's off to mom in this story. I'm guessing even if he snuck a little here and there he still had a lot less exposure than his peers. He probably appreciates the money, but he won't know the real reward his mom gave him until he has kids of his own.
