well see how things go, I suppose, but their previous wave peak was December 18, 2020 with a 7 day avg of 3,500 cases. This led to their previous 7 day avg of deaths at 35 on January 21, 2021

for a 1:1 comparison on December 18th, 2021, they had 8,600 cases and January 21, 2022 they had 15 deaths.

we are a month past that; a month ago they had 20,000 cases and still havent passed their peak average with 31 deaths.

the goal cannot be to eradicate Covid because that is literally impossible. But clearly with vaccinations the risk has been significantly reduced

Yes, yes we do. And we also have enough data on Covid to say that even as vaccinated it seems you really really don't want to get it, but not enough data to say what the exact risk is.

While you're not wrong, this doesn't completely negate concerns, actually for much the same reason that the "99% survival rate!" cries from anti-vaxx crowd doesn't mean much either.

DISCLAIMER: To be very clear before someone tries to declare this "misinformation", the following paragraph is using example numbers to illustrate the concept; I am not claiming they are actual real-world stats. (I know, this is such a ridiculous thing to write a disclaimer about, but recent events have proven such disclaimers are necessary on GameFAQs.)

For example, if the vaccine reduced the risk to 1/100th of what it was, but the Omicron variant also caused 100x as many cases - those cancel out exactly and you're pretty much back to the original position in terms of healthcare burden. But, because there's still more cases, there's a much higher contact tracing burden, at least for places that are still doing that - and places that aren't, will see higher case numbers due to that, as the whole point of contact tracing is to attempt to break, or at least slow down, at least some of the chains of transmission.

Again, those are example numbers to illustrate a point, not the actual change in risk from vaccines / increase in case rates from Omicron.

The thing is though, youre exactly right that your numbers arent correct, and that matters.

whether its to save face or not, public health officials in Denmark are claiming that hospitalization rates are such that their healthcare system isnt being overwhelmed even despite the massive increase in cases

they remain at an extremely low death rate compared to much of the rest of the world (722/million compared to USs 2851/million)

They are also claiming that these numbers dont accurately reflect people dying from Covid-19, but rather people with Covid-19. Which sort of makes if you consider that if 30,000+ people per day are testing positive, some of those people will die of whatever other cause.
