Like most artist, his best work are his early albums. Never really cared for him tbh.

Section 80 and GKMC are probably the best albums in the last 10-15 years

he has the potential to be one of the GOATs, IMO, but it feels like he relies on his older works to keep himself in the conversation while he's on hiatus, and his contemporaries continue to make music

I dont like his voice, his lyrics dont grab my attention and most of the beats he chooses sound boring to me. I dont know if hes overrated, but I dont like him very much

I would say yes and no.

Section80 and GKMC are easily two of the greatest albums in rap history. TPAB is at times an amazing album in its own right, DAMN didn't hit the spot for me but it was still not bad. Overly Dedicated is a solid debut project as well, then you mix in all his features on throughout the years (early features on Top Dawg were almost always fire).

Personally I think his run up until TPAB is unparalleled in terms of quality. I can really only think of one song (Michael Jordan) that just never hit the spot for me. It has also stood up to time pretty well all things considered.

He's overrated in the sense that people will sometimes make him out to be the GOAT or some mythical rapper. He's definitely going to go down as top 10 for me when he's done, but depending on how he finishes his career It will determine his place

Nothing wrong with taking time away from music

pop and rock acts do it all the time; dont know why we expect rappers to churn shit out on a regular basis. Not like any of them truly keep up consistent quality for any extended length of time

yea, I don't necessarily mind that someone wants to take a break - maybe lack of inspiration, personal life stuff, different responsibilities (kids and wife) having them prioritize different things, etc.

but I feel like if you're still saying you're the best, you've gotta show that to those that are still on the grind.

You could make an argument that anyone whos reached that level of recognition is overrated.

but hes very talented. And while hes been sort of slow to put out work Ive been a fan of almost everything he has put out.

I haven't heard that much I like, but I'm coming around. Sometimes it just takes time to get, "It," and I haven't reached the point with Kendrick yet. I think I only have 3 or 4 songs from him on my Playlist

Not at all, they could release another filler album like Untitled Unmastered while working on a new future classic.

Dre took him under his wing and look how many albums he put out lol (i mean, ignoring the fact dre is a much better producer than artist).

I agree with you on kendrick. He hasnt put out much but what he has done is top notch.
