Honestly this is literally the first I've heard of Asmongold. Not exactly a heavy MMO streamer follower, assuming that is his thing.

So you admit you don't know much about him but already compare him to someone else who is 'supposedly' bad in your opinion too.

I like how anytime anyone talks about how women are treated in gaming people rush to attack the person complaining. How dare women want to be treated better in the industry. My girlfriend always says how embarrassed she is to be a gamer when most armor is just them naked. Women don't like being fanservice. They never have.

Even better you have people who have no idea about anything Korean jumping to claim they know what Korean women want.

This is exactly the same for almost everything in existence. Take something out of context and its bound to look bad. So what do you need to do? Watch more to find the context.

Of course there are women who like their characters dressed up. There are also women who like their characters sexy and half naked. Your comment seems to be grouping them in only the former so you're literally doing the same thing.

"They don't like being fanserviced". Nope not true. So many girls have the fantasy of looking good and portray that on their character, just like guys. Your girlfriend isn't the same as all other girls. They aren't a hivemind if you can believe that.

Lastly, look at the differences between FF14 and Lost Ark. FF14 is a Japanese game and focuses more on "cute/kawaii" and chibi characters. These are things girls absolutely adore in Japan and yearn for.

Korea is more based on "sexy, long legged" beauties. Look at their kpop stars. These look almost exactly like the female characters in Lost Ark and probably a lot of Korean girls admire that too.

For you to say women don't like that kind of fanservice is plain wrong.

If you don't want to, fine go ahead and believe what you want based on half-clipped bullshit. Its your right.

I've played games with a strong variety of women over the years, courtesy of being on an RP server while playing WoW, and lemme tell you... there's no one-size-fits-all take. You can't just say "women don't like being fanservice," because actually a very large number of the ones I knew would seek out the most revealing, most skimpy clothes they could find to use for their transmog. They loved dressing sexy and drawing attention.

It's an issue with more than one side, shockingly enough.

Gender locked classes is trash game design.
So is having women stuck with a heels only option.

He does have a great point. The men being 6'5 giga-chads can be just as restrictive as the women wearing heels.

Also, I don't care for Lost Ark, so the minutiae of the debate is largely irrelevant. Kotaku is a joke site though.

You can't just slap the parasocial label on everybody who supports a streamer in opposition to their critics. The term suggests that we think of him as a friend, but really he's just a guy who makes videos. That said, he is a real person, and if he's being done dirty by critics and nay sayers, it's completely normal to have the desire to say "well actually you're wrong"

No one needs to give Asmongold any views. Another racist white streamer. We definitely don't need to give those types more attention.

If you are white and live in the West, you have been raised with intrinsically racist ideals taught to you constantly. It takes an active acknowledgement of this and intense self-analysis and reflection to start overcoming that.

He has from what I recall railed against ideas such as white privilege. Attacking that idea is based in racist misunderstandings of the concept.

On one hand we have people claiming Asmongold killed his own mother, or set her on fire. Then have some claiming he's racist based on absolutely nothing. Then we have people linking and defending Kotaku of all sites.

Then we have some who ask for context of someone, refuses to watch anything else, then continues to argue about that said person for hours when he himself admitted he knows next to nothing about that person.

This is CE, and I keep getting dragged into this shit. Count me as one of the complete dipshits.

He's not going to. He already said he can't be bothered to watch anything else or anymore context. But he's for sure going to spend more time arguing with you.

Its something very simple called supply and demand.

A majority of the korean audience wants exactly what lost ark is delivering thus the developers supplied them with that and the western audience is entirely secondary.
I dont like this design and i sure as hell wont play lost ark or tell their devs how to make their game its really just that simple i enjoy games with different character design options and ill play those games instead.

Honestly my desire for engagement in this discussion increased the moment someone suggested that this "straight facts" clip was in fact not straight facts because it was the streamer playing a character.

Honestly if people confirm to me that this statement comes from the streamer's persona and not him personally, then I think of the streamer himself less poorly, but the problem is then less about the streamer and more about the people trying to convince me how direct and intelligent the streamer is through a commentary he's giving as a character, which I would think people would agree with me somewhat muddies the message being sent.

It's an hilarious contradiction.

By this logic, every single society in existence is racist. Its not so much as racism as it is ignorance within a culture and society of other people.

For you to simply call it racism, and then confine it only within the west to one type of people (White people) undermines the problem in such a huge way. This kind of thinking itself does more harm than good.
