Like how often do I feed him and how much? Purina?

Also he is at least 2 years old.

I know standard poodles will self regulate how much they eat. Usually youd just leave the bowl out in the morning for 15 min, theyll eat what they want and repeat at dinner time

Some breeds will just eat until theyre so full that they throw up and they'll eat what they yakked up

Yeah that's not happening. I want him to be healthy so I don't over or under do it.

Yeah, poodles are smart. I have an apricot and white standard. In fact, she's about to be pregnant. Wish me luck.

I've had so many dogs growing up. Cane corsos, rottweilers, shi tzus, toy poodles, chocolate labs, maltese, boston terriers, queensland heelers, english bulldog, afghan hound, mutts and probably a couple that I'm forgetting. Every single one of them, except the english bulldog, self regulated their food intake and was fine with a bowl being left down at all times.

Beaulla was the bulldog's name. She ate so much that her belly was rock hard and she had to be taken to the vet to empty her stomach. The other dogs were not happy about the feeding changes that had to be made to keep Beaulla from over eating.

Somewhat. You definitely don't need those crazy overpriced blue buffalo style hyperorganic dog foods that cost four times as much as every other brand, but you also want to avoid the bargain basement brands that look like you're feeding your dog lucky charms.

I give my dog Purina pro which is on the higher side of mid-range and he's 10 and in perfect health. The place I got him from gives their dogs. And have never had any dietary problems.

Protip: dogs don't usually eat their own poop. One sign of malnutrition is seeing a dog who eats poop because he's trying to get more nutrients out of what was passed through. So if you're feeding your dog one brand and you see it doing that consider switching to a brand with slightly more nutritional value.

If it makes you feel better, my advice likely only applies to dogs eating their own poop. For all I know, they find cat poop a tasty treat.

i could be wrong. but small dogs may be better off with more frequent meals because of blood sugar issues (otherwise they're better off with 2 meals per day) 1 morning and 1 night.

my own dog eats one time per day but it's a bigger meal (she used to eat twice per day) until she turned 8 years old.

she gets half a large chicken breast. a cup of natures dominion salmon/sweet potato dog food. 1 meatball (to help her down her medication) and 1 slice of freshpet dog food (chicken or turkey) whichever i have on hand.

sometimes she leaves the kibble for dinner so she eats that in the morning. i have to keep her from going skinny. no fears in being fat.
