I think it's great fun to have a Mario Kart experience on the go. I picked it up last night and had a blast.

A thing to note:

The game looks and sounds exactly like the Gamecube Mario Kart. On one hand, the visuals and sound are all very high quality for a handheld. On the other hand, its shocking how much theyve borrowed from previous games. Every single sound effect is the same: the item noises, the driving noises, the menu noises, the menu background music, the chimes when starting a race, etc. The music is all very typical Mario Kart music; youve heard it already.

Im not saying that you wont have any fun playing this game. I am saying that this game leaves a lot to be desired. If Nintendo had simply ported Double Dash or Mario Kart Wii to the 3DS, at least consumers would have known ahead of time that they were getting an old game.

I had fun with it.. not as much as MK5 thou when I figured out how to play online

I think I shelved MK7 after they patched the short cut on the mountain level

Why make new sounds when you can use old ones for free?

I preferred Mario Kart DS tbh, there were a couple of changes (that don't immediately come to mind) that felt like a reduction in functionality despite the new features.

MK Infinity is really good though

Double Dash has the coolest concept but the karts feel like they're always on ice. I would love DD's gimmick in MK8's style

Nitro-Fueled was amazing. Great controls, very skill-based, huge roster with multiple alts and recolors, etc. It's probably my favorite racing game. Sonic Racing Transformed is also up there

It was. I liked that the person in the back could punch other karts and steal items

Is Mario Kart DS still worth playing? I missed out on it.

If you can find a copy, it's a great stand alone single player that has a battle mode and a mission mode in addition to the regular racing modes you get in normal Mario Kart games.

I played it so much I knew almost all the hard mode AI's path finding per position on nearly every track.

It's pre flight mechanics, which can be a little jarring going back to, but I still love it.

most control fine. drifting is easy, start the turn before getting to it
