They will never stop making it until the franchise is no longer popular. But by the time ite unpopular enough to make another season, it won't be worth finishing the show. So the show is doomed to at some point just fizzle out. We will never see Ash actually complete his quest. The show is doomed by its own success until it inevitably runs out

Eventually it'll be public domain and then the fans will finish it, but you will be dead.

When they do eventually wrap it up Ash will win a league and everyone who still watches will think its the greatest thing ever despite the fact that it means basically nothing

It's already waaay past being worth finishing...

It'll end with him waking up after being in this coma.

But then we'll never see Ash become a Pokemon Master! Or find out what that arbitrary goal even means!

One day we'll find out what was inside the GS ball

Same thing with Detective Conan, it has been on air since 1996

I think theyll get rid of Ash within the next couple of years and continue the anime with a new protagonist

The show isn't meant to be finished. We know that because Ash doesn't age.

I genuinely don't know why they've insisted on keeping Ash around this long. As a kid he was never particularly popular among anyone I knew. They should've let him go off into the sunset after Orange Islands and follow some new character based on Gold once they got to Johto lol

This realization is why I stopped watching 20+ years ago.

Don't give your story a goal if the show isn't about reaching the goal.

This, the only way the show will end as they will never have him die or his mon yanks the life support. Pokemon does not need a dark ending.

I haven't cared about the show in 20 years but I still got salty af when he lost the Kalos league lol.

Tough pill to swallow the regular manga is pretty fucking dark as the pokemon descriptions are in the main games. Hypno and Drifloom are pretty fucked up and clearly not child safe.

I used to occasionally check in to see if he'd won the league yet. I'm actually disappointed he finally got one. Tobias was funny.

Alola was a made-up leage that is the equivalent of dads in a garage starting up a baseball league and calling the championship a Pro Baseball Team Championship

Lol so I guess the first winners of any major sporting event dont count then.

The show is literally advertisement for the games. It is not meant to have a "real story"

You're damn right they don't.

Last episode takes place 20 years in the future, and a huge tournament is finally wrapping up. Only the final match remains. We see people in the stands and notice many central characters.

Then the announcer announces that the challenger are entering the arena.

One is obvious right off the bat, side by side with his trusty Pikachu. The other is Gary.

Cut back to the stands with Professor Oak rubbing his chin proclaiming his excitement. Ash's mom is freaking out with Mr. Mime trying to calm her down.

Gary and Ash say some stuff to each other. Then the first pokemon theme starts playing as the fight begins.

As the battle goes on the scene cuts to different moments throughout the shows duration, then cuts back to the battle going on.

By the end of the song Gary and Ash are down to 2 pokemon. Ash is obviously down to Pikachu, Gary down to...whatever. The screen cuts in half, one side is Gary, the other Ash as they pronounce their final attacks.

The last two pokemon charge at each other.

The screen then transitions to Gameboy graphics as the final blows are landed, ending where it all began.

*roll credits*

What frustrates me about that anime... is its inconsistency... You have a Pikachu who essentially has fought against most of the shows gym leaders and Elite 4, yet loses to a starter pokemon. And then there's the whole deal with Ash still being eleven, which is extremely unusual for a Japanese anime, as they tend to do time jumps. Even Digimon had a time skip. Hell, the show needs a time skip. At least make Ash 15-16 years old.

Should have just based the anime on games. Then they can have a new iteration every gen.

I believe Ash at some point will be done and well get a new main character. I dont think the anime will ever end though until maybe the games do and even then I could see other iterations of Pokmon in the media.

I kind of see them building up Goh as the new protagonist. He has an interesting personality.

In the final episode, Ash turns 11 and his old Butterfree lands on the windowsill.

hopefully ask wakes up, goes outside, and sees normal birds and normal butterflies, and a normal dog, etc
