I think he's missed Dinklage's point. I think it's less "Get rid of all Dwarf rolls." and more "Just give Dwarves more normal roles."

In which case he's not taking jobs away. I mean The Dinkster played Thrask in X-men the poopyone and the gang boss in I Care A Lot.

Roles where being small wasn't relevant. What other little actors have done that?

I can only think of Warrick Davies as Flitwick and that Secretary in the Batman cartoon (and I don't even know if the VA was little)

I mean if Finn from Star Wars was little, would anything in the plot change?

Yeah I think he missed the point entirely. Not shocked Fox just ran with it though.

*Warwick Davis (though you did correctly spell his first name phonetically as the 2nd w is silent)

I do not receive notifications, so using the @ feature will not do anything. I might see your post and respond though if I have already been in the topic.

He wouldn't have made the cut to become a storm trooper, so yes.

That's why the other little people are coming after him.

He's in the privileged position of being offered those kind of roles, while other little people would never be considered.

Maybe but the point is being small had nothing to do with the role. He was just a dude who was small.

I don't think it ever came up

I think youre missing the point as well. Its a paradoxical situation because dwarfs are being typecasted for these roles, but you are simultaneously taking away jobs from 7 little people by raising this issue. Hornswoggle is simply pointing out the irony in calling for more progressive storytelling when you are immediately taking away jobs from 7 lesser known dwarf actors desperate to earn a break in the film industry.

Yes but I don't think being "progressive" is "Take out these 7 roles and then never hire a dwarf again."

It's "Take out these 7 roles and instead regularly hire dwarfs in the tens of thousands of TV and film roles that go on every day."

That's progression.

Admittedly you can still have those 7 sterotypes and other normal roles too. But that wasn't Hornswoggles point. It was just "those 7 roles go away."

Sort of like the people who attack green energy going "These's thousands of jobs in oil and coal and fracking!" and ignoring that there's hundreds of thousands of jobs in green energy and would be millions if we actually went for it.

One of the reasons I like The Station Agent is because it was the first time I saw a little person in a movie that wasn't fantasy, sci-fi, or dystopian.

Why cant both exist exactly?

Why does everything have to be one or the other? Cant fictional dwarves and normal real world dwarfs exist in the world of storytelling?

Hed be a little short for a Stormtrooper.

Warwick Davis also played Wicket in Return of the Jedi and a character in Willow (which I havent seen).

Actually it did come up in the books. There was some backstory that he was hiding his goblin heritage or something. I dont remember very well, but it definitely was part of his character.

Willow is excellent

But Wicket and Willow are characters who are supposed to be small. It's relevant to the plot that they are small.

As opposed to say Robbie from Spiderman or Ashley in Fresh Prince or Guinan in Star Trek.

You could replace the actors with a dwarf and the characters would be the same. It's just that the studios won't cast dwarf actors in "normal" roles because dwarf actors only play fantasy dwarves or Santas elves or puppets or aliens or comedy "freaks" like Mini-me.

That's what Dinklage is getting at.

I mean would you be losing any sleep over if the villain of Jurrasic World Domination was a dwarf actor?

Because they sure as shit didn't cast one

Dont remember that in the books, you sure it wasnt Pottermore or something? The only time I remember his height really coming up was in a brief scene in the OotP movie where Umbridge was measuring him, which wasnt in the books afaik.

Dinklage made these comments conveniently to get trending just in time to start promotion for his lead role movie in Cyrano.

He and his agent played everyone for saps.
