There was supposed to be a prequel to Die Hard made starring Ryan Gosling as John McClane but got cancelled after the Disney buyout of Fox Studios.

I really wish we had gotten one last one with Lucy and Jack, maybe even Holly, to show that though he wasn't the best husband/father, they all stayed in each other's lives

After seeing 4 I knew the series was dead. Didn't even bother with 5.

That's what's crazy. Despite not originally being DH movies, 2 and 3 still feel like sequels to the first. They still feel like they're set in the same world and have some consistency. 4, and from what I hear 5 could be any generic action schlock from that era with just a few changes to the writing.

I still like Die Hard 4. Maybe its nostalgia, but I think its a lot of fun.

It's not.

Its a masterpiece compared to 5.

I dunno.

5 is almost admirable in how awful it is.

4 is just generic super hero McClane action and plot.

5 might be so good it's bad, but it's so bad I don't wanna watch it again to find out.

I rewatched 5 the other day, eh... I remember disliking 4 more, but Ive never rewatched that one.

5 has Bruce Willis continuously repeating that he's on vacation when he isn't.

How can you beat that?

4 was awesome to watch in a theater while high as fuck

My main complaint with 4 is that John McClane didnt once declare whether or not he was on vacation.

4 actually had better critic reviews than 2 and 3 I think!

I really liked 4 - I know his character became almost invulnerable action wise but I thought his character developed in an understandable way. It showed that his nature of rushing into danger/taking on the world's problems really did have a cost (marriage and being a father) - one of the few action movies (or series) I could think of that did that. Really liked his small monologue to Farrell..

Yeah, Im surprised people hate on 4 so much.

I thought 4 was fun.

I actually liked 4 better than 2

1>3>4>2>5

At the end of the day, the only one of them that is good is the first one. But 2 and to some extend 3 at least serve the purpose of "I like this character, I want more". 4 is a bad unrelated action movie pretending to be a Die Hard movie starring a character it's pretending is John McClane and DH5 is just a bad joke.

Beyond the near invulnerability, in what way did you feel it was somebody pretending to be McClane? Him ending up regretful over the choices of not being a better husband/father showed the character changing over twenty years, especially as he was still a good person that acted went out of his way to "do the right thing". I thought it built off the low point his character was in 3 perfectly (and what 1 addressed with the whole reason for him visiting during Christmas) - sometime you can be a good person and things still don't work out the way you'd want them to.

I finally watched the sequels to Die Hard this Christmas season. I liked 1, 3 and 4 a lot. 2 was boring and a good day to die hard was one of the worst movies Ive ever seen
