This is something I've only really seen on TV...but I see it on TV alot.

Is it a more regional thing down there? Like....huh?

Not me, we always take ours off at the door.

Like, it depends. I think the best way to summarize it is that you're expected to take them off (especially if a guest), especially if it's carpet, but no one usually cares if you don't barring the shoes being muddy or something.

Depends on the house.

I leave mine on often in our house, but we have all wood floors which are easy to clean. If I had carpet in the house, no way I would walk through the house with shoes on.

When visiting others, I often take my shoes off at the front door because it is the polite thing to do.

Depends. Some days I have to go upstairs & downstairs a lot and I always have my shoes on when I'm downstairs (floors are just too cold).

It isn't like I keep my shoes on while I relax on the couch or anything.

I take my shoes off at home, but I don't do it visiting other people's houses...no idea why but that is just how I grew up and it seems to be what pretty much everyone else around here does.

My shoes come off as soon as I get home. I take them off in other people's houses if I'm staying for any length of time

Depends on a lot of things. Like whose house it is, the flooring, what kind of shoes, how dirty/clean they are, how long Im staying, etc

Like in my house, I wear them in they are clean until I get to my room, or the couch in the living room. At my familys home, I take them off when I get inside. Unless Im going to the basement. Then I take them off down there. At my BFs house, I take them off in the room. Unless we are going to go someone within the next like hour. Then I keep them on. But in a house with carpet, I usually take the off first with some exceptions. Like my co-worker has carpet, and I take my shoes off there So, stuff like that. You can usually tell what to do per house on a house by house basis

I would say things are different for you, though

I don't ever remember leaving my shoes on in someone's house, with the exception of "I'm just grabbing one thing over there" moments. If the house was dirty enough, though...

If someones house smells like feet, they have other problems. And people not wearing their shoes isnt one of them

I think it used to be a much more common formality and unspoken rule that slowly dwindled into a personal preference thing, where some people follow it and some don't.

If you're a guest in somebody's house, they might stay on, but most people don't wear them in their own home.

I'm wearing my shoes on inside right now

So in some folks homes they have wooden flooring or whatever so don't care if you keep your footwear on when it comes to my city(in England). I always ask if they want me to take my footwear off though as I like to respect other peoples homes. As for my own home? I don't care unless my footwear is wet and/or muddy and the same goes for guests.
