LA has been out in SK/russia for a few years now and others have already played it with VPN so it's an already established game compared to NW. it just hasn't been localized in the west until now.

I watched asmongold play it on steam today, and it's literally just a Path of Exile clone with mobile game bullshit attached to it.

It's literally the same as playing a mobile game. You "can" free to play it but it takes so unrealistically long to get there that you have to dedicate your life to it. Definitely not for me anymore. BDO only kept me engaged because of the seasonal system. It was not fun on a main account.

BDO is such a remarkably different experience its more telling thats the only comparison you really have tbh.

especially since the only similarity between POE and lost arc is that they are both isometric/top down ARPGs.

black desert online, an MMO with an incredible character creation system, that boils down the leveling experience to grinding random mobs for exp in true Korean MMO fashion. The leveling process in lost ark is 100% different with the developers minimizing the leveling process intentionally so you dont drag grinding levels to endgame.

its hard to say, you can get crafting materials through a rotating secret shop with real cash, so depends on the crafting material actually coming into rotation.

but thats all you can do, you cant buy engravings or skill points or any other progression tools, so at best youre paying money to skip a few runs of the chaos dungeon.

You cant pay to out power anyone whos just farming, you can just get to their level faster. so imo its negligible but some people will take issue with it being available period. FWIW the developer took a profit cut to change how real money transactions are done, and they made a deal with Amazon to mitigate real money progression further in the NA/EU release, but until we actually see that we can only go off the Korean model (which I used for the above points).

[Simple review]
(1) I enjoyed all the content of Lost Ark without spending any money. Don't make narrow judgments based on the gaming experience you've played so far. You can enjoy all the content without spending real money, and you've never been offended by players who used real money.
(2) 99% of PVP has no P2W element. So let's talk about PVE.
(3) The higher the item level (Gearscore), the more playable content. You can use real money to quickly level up your item levels (Gearscore), but that's like watching a sequel without watching the first movie. Also, runes, skill points, tier 3 region commander set items (weapon, armor), etc. cannot be purchased with real money. These are items that can only be obtained through your efforts.
If you grow quickly with only real money and then challenge endgame content such as Abyss Raid and Legion Commander Raid, you will die quickly. Even if you succeed in surviving, if you do not have runes, skill points, etc., your DPS will be low and you will fail to clear the endgame contents.
Item level (Gearscore) is just a few of the many factors that make you stronger. It's like giving a one-year-old child a gun and he can't use it properly. Players need more variety and more growth factors.
(4) Korean gamers also hate P2W games. In fact, Korean gamers who were tired of P2W games moved to Lost Ark on a large scale, so Lost Ark was able to achieve 2nd place in popularity in Korea.
(5)[2022 News]Recently, on the Korean server, the game director gave up the Pay to Profit factor, which accounts for 17% of sales.
Now, in the endgame, additional rewards no longer consume crystals similar to real money, and anyone can obtain them by consuming gold. Even the amount of gold required is very small.
Evidence related to this can be found through the 2021 LOA ON winter YouTube video. Currently, the video exists on the official Lost Ark YouTube channel (Korea). This video is officially provided with English subtitles.
(6) Lost Ark is 100% free. If you are wondering if it is a good game or not, you can try it yourself.

ya I dont get why people always give WoW and FF14 a pass like that.

Lost Ark has some issues for sure, like the engraving system being pretty dog shit. But the focus on micro transaction P2W is pretty weird imo.

It was at 1.2 million on launch day, sits at around 300k-400k nowadays, and in a month, it will be at around 70-80k. Still very respectable numbers, but people started to realize it's a Korean grindfest like every single Korean MMORPG out there.

Asmongold is doing most of the carrying with 100k+ viewers daily.

I'm not bashing the game, it looks fun, but it's a grindfest at the end of the day and we westerners just don't like to deal with that shit, that's for the Chinese and Korean fans of the genre.
