No, it was a physical prop. What it was, is the audience sees the Monkey positioned toward the camera--we get the front of it. The player has to put it together from behind, and it's way harder to tell the pieces apart from the back, and how they slot together, when you can't see the obvious shape of it that the audience sees in the front.
