Happened to others like movie/tv, food, and automobiles. It was the inevitable next step.

It happened years ago when EA bought everything that moved. Like decades ago.

EA, Activision, and Sega have been slowly devouring everything anyway, for decades.
All that's changed recently is that Activision itself was devoured.

I do find it pretty funny when people cry about consolidation now when fucking Sony and Microsoft have been in the gaming space for decades now. Or that gaming was literally 'saved' when Nintendo stepped in and forced almost everyone to go through them.

Most of the concern is over having to buy more than one console. Which isn't what consolidation means. Barely anyone even notices or brings up that Tencent beats both Microsoft and Sony in gaming revenue.

We're currently in an era where there's no need to by any console, unless you like Nintendo stuff.
PS5 has six exclusives, while XS has none. NS has 95 exclusives, but they don't count for some reason.

As a PC gamer this seems almost like a nonissue, PC gaming is already consolidated

Not quite. You have Epic game store exclusives and not sure if the Blizzard store will still be needed after it becomes Microsoft, but either way there will still be Microsoft store exclusives as well.

Epic Store is bleeding money and isn't anywhere close to their expectations.

Everything from Xbox Game Studios goes on Steam now. Only reason to use the Microsoft Store is Game Pass.

As long as Nintendo exists console gaming will never be truly consolidated either.

PC gaming is vastly different now than it was 20 years ago, even if Steam isnt literally the only store

And that's the old one. I think Viacom was bought out, maybe it was GE. Fox Entertainment is owned by Time Warner or something too, with Newscorp's biggest property being only Fox News now. So there's like four companies. But I guess Netflix isn't on there or Amazon who are making gains in media ownership.
