I was looking for a third car to buy. Like a jeep or older suv just for the purposes of when we travel with our huskies, going hiking, biking, etc..

Everything is so overpriced and with high mileage

The car market is nuts. I keep getting emails from my dealer asking to buy my car back for more than I bought it for last year.

Which is tempting, but then what am I gonna drive?

The transmission on my 2018 wrx just blew up. Car has 61000 miles. 12 grand repair. In a normal car market, I would ditch thr car, trade it in, and get something new. But the car market is so bonkers it makes more sense to repair it. I only have a year left on the loan.

Dealer would look in the car's drivetrain computers to see to see signs of neglected maintenance and hooning.

I used to work in cars and I assure you the entire market is totally fucked. USED cars are selling at the original MSRP right now. It is the biggest sellers market right now and cars are very hard to find.

I owed 15k on my leased car (15k was the current buyout price if I wanted to own it) and the value of the car was 23k. Its so upside down rn but you kind find ways to make it work. I got a car I am in love with since I had all that extra equity in my old one. Took me 4 months to finally get it though since the dealership didnt have it

In my case, there was a broken chain and metal shavings in the transmission housing. They said the transmission fluid seemed low. I never got in lights telling me that was the case nor did the check engine light come on before the failure. I suppose a leak could have developed or something, but no warnings came on that was occurring. The car drove fine that morning into work. I left the parking garage I use after work, drove about a block -- and it was running fine best I could tell -- and as I accelerated through an intersection, I hear a loud pop or bang. I coast the car to a curb and call a tow. The engine would generate RPMs and sounded fine, but the car wouldn't move in any gear.

It's a CVT model. So it's not like I've been popping the clutch and grinding gears because I am bad and shifting or anything.

***

In 2019, an oil shop botched the oil change. They drained some transmission fluid. They claimed to have fixed it. I didn't trust that, so I brought it to my dealership and had them check it days later. They ran diagnostics on it and said it was fine. That was 3 years ago and like 40,000 miles ago.

So I have no idea.

If you did all your maintenance services at the dealer, you could ask the dealer to make an exception. They do that at times.

my 2013 camry is still worth 9-10k. It would be higher but the paint has a lot of scratches and the windshield has a few but they've faded over time

I lived in a different city, in a different state when I bought the car So I'm dealing with a different dealership. The only maintenance I've had done on the car is oil changes and new tires. I would get the oil changes just a local jiffy lube type of place, and tires from a nice tire shop. I don't have a ton of service records.

I am in the process, however, of getting the records from 2019 where I did have my original dealer check the trans. I also directly contacted Subaru, and I'm going to see if I can work something out with them.

The dealer that has my car right now is hoping the factory will give a big discount on the parts at very least. The down payment I supplied is mainly for the labor. I am hoping between my efforts and the current dealer, to get the cost way down or basically free.
