Certainly feels like there's an uptick

Can't remember if Into The Spider-Verse or Crisis of Infinite Earths on the CW was first.
Obviously MCU has gotten into it lately.
DCEU will do it later this year.

The two big superhero brands doing it alone makes it feel common due to how common these stories are. Even the new Superman show has it as a plot point.

Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart is about this concept too
Apparently Riverdale also got into it

I feel like I'm forgetting something or don't know about other stuff doing this.

I thought you were talking about Mandela Effect. That's going on more lately too. For instance, in my universe, Meatloaf's most well-known song was I Would Do Anything For Love. In this universe I got merged with, it's Bat Out Of Hell.

You remember those stories from the guys making quantum computers that just stopped about three years ago?

They were saying some weird stuff.

The multiverse has been a thing in comics for decades. It just feels more common now because TV and movie adaptations of comics finally have the budgets to create enough material to warrant a multiverse.

I know right. In my universe, Mark Hamill was the voice of the Emperor in Oblivion. But now it's Patrick Stewart.

They were saying some weird stuff.

quantum computers don't actually work and some grad student proved this pretty convincingly by showing there was a statistical reality that would never allow for infinite (or even all that great) computing like they promised.

essentially they are very fast, but often just wrong (ie the 0 is a 1 and it aint supposed to be). you can still use them through redundancy, having more and taking the solution with the most "votes" between the processors, but in the process of having to do all this you'd never gain anything useful, like building a calculator in minecraft, it doesn't matter how great your design is a calculator is faster.

it didn't help that we had justin trudeau telling the world they were the future and that ppl were dumbasses if they didn't understand that.

In my universe, Lindsay Lohan had a long, illustrious and respected pop career, while Katy Perry had a number of incidents with the police, drugs and eventually disappeared into mediocrity.

Also, Stanley Tucci ran in the 2016 US elections as a joke. His major campaign pledge was that each member of his cabinet would be utterly bald. Dissatisfaction with the major parties and their lack of quality candidates led to an unexpected groundswell of support, and he became president.

He is currently in his second term, and it is a golden age for the United States, and this optimism, desire for harmony and tolerance has been infectious. The world is a much nicer place to live than it was.

If you read about quantum computers they talk about increasing the "threshold" of error, but it's annoying how they fail to mention it's something like a limit that approaches around 65-75% and fundamentally will never reach what they want it to. they promise infinite computing in an instant. like... get fucking real. it's literally like promising a perpetual energy device.

they are a curious physics experiment, but they are also a con. we shouldn't invest in them, only study them like anything else but absolutely accept that they will not have a commercial application in the sense of providing infinite or near infinite computing.

entangled bits would, on the other hand, be pretty awesome and allow for faster-than-light communication.

We can 100% theoretically entangle 2 computers and put one on Mars, have one on earth, and that would allow us to instantly communicate with someone on Mars.

You don't have to entangle the entire computer, just however many bits you want.

the fundamental fabric of reality

edit: quantum fluctuations in strings. remember how electrons are never really in "one" spot? it's different but similar. small scale reality is a wavefunction of statistics, not pixel grid like we want it to be. there may be a pixel grid underneath what we see with strings and photons or electrons, but we'll never be able to access that part of the universe

The people working on one that I read didnt think it was because of un collapsed waves and therefore unquantifiable variables, they believed they were getting bounce returns from the same computer being ran in slightly different reality.

It was rather fascinating.

OK I finally saw Spiderman No Way Home. Some of the acting was pretty forced when the Parker's had a reunion but otherwise it was an alright movie.

Also physically moving to another parallel universe isn't like that. It takes way more energy (or was it next to no energy I forget).

Low Latency Remote Control Fin Funnels =D

I don't need that many bits to create a controller input for it to operate in 3D space.

We should at least be able to route simple equations into an array of small quantum calculators to speed up computing and over time, as we get better and better at making them, with more and more functional quantum processors, transition into full quantum computers. Basically, people are expecting a new motherboard when the engineers are still trying to build a punch card computer.

I'm pretty sure Quantum Computers won't turn out the way we think it will.

It'll have it's niches, but it won't be the "Be All, End All" that you think it is.

I don't engage much with movies and especially not comic book stuff but the whole concept sounds so ridiculous to me. It's like something a fanfic writer would come up with, let's get all the people from these different movies together!

It's like the new version of when they would reboot something and have one of the original actors do a cameo as a different character

Mutiverse to me is just a good story writing tool for when you get an idea for a story but then realize we'll can't do that cause it would contradict this. So let's just make a whole new universe

(It doesn't even have to be that. Anything that can be reliably manipulated with predictable results can be turned into something of a computer. Encoded messages. Images. Stable structures. You can funnel that into a binary or tetriary or etc digital computing language. They just need the right combination of particles and housing, basically. Go when I say go. Stop when I say stop. Do a flip. Dont flop.)

Along the way, maybe they replace electricity. Electrons are so wasteful tbh
